Abby Martin of Media Roots went out to cover the immediate aftermath of the brutal police raid of Occupy Oakland at 6:20 am on October 25, 2011. 500+ Oakland PD used tear gas, rubber bullets and completely leveled two encampments of peaceful protestors practicing civil disobedience. 90+ protestors were then arrested. Whatever happened in Oakland, California this morning wasn't pretty. A reporter on location was tipped off by a city official that at 4:30am (pst) the police were going to show up to clean up the park filled with protestors. A raid. At that time, the mainstream media outlets were already on stand by ready to capture the footage. The police didn't have the right to kick anyone out especially during hours in which the park is open to the public, but knowingly, they still went through with their orders. One officer was asked by a bystander if he feels good about what he's doing and if he's going to tell his grandchildren about these times. The officer replied with, "I'm just following orders." Yeah, so were the guys at the Nuremberg trials... Police departments from municipalities surrounding Oakland along with the OPD took to the streets to "evict" those occupying Frank Ogawa Plaza and Snow Park.
