Bill McKibben at Occupy Wall Street rally 10/8/2011

Author and activist Bill McKibben addressed the crowd assembled in Washington Square Park for a special session of the Occupy Wall Street general assembly. This was during the post-GA portion of the rally. As for why the crowd keeps repeating what McKibben is saying, for those that don't know, the police have prohibited all forms of sound amplification. The demonstrators have taken to using what they call the "human microphone"—speakers address the crowd in short phrases which are then repeated across the crowd as many times as is necessary for all in attendance to hear what's being said. The pipeline he refers to, right at the beginning, is the proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, currently in the final review phase by the State Department.

With my self-identified Democratic Socialist instructor, it is likely that she did not need a student to ask her to circulate this politically charged piece of info. I wonder: would if she will return the favor for TUSIF? This is our (my) first footage (ever), so please excuse the shakiness here and there. There are four parts to total film coverage from the heart of Temple's main campus, to the very edge, where Occupy Philly TU Contingent continued marching to City Hall to join the rest of Occupy Philly, many of which make up a majority of the those in attendance of at this rally. Part #1 takes place in the library--a very quite place, as we all know--where Occupy Philly was hollering as they recruited students to walk out and leave their studies and work join them immediately outside of the doors. No students, other than myself, followed, but I just happened to be taking a little short cut through when I came upon the hollering disturbance. Occupy LA October 22nd , 2011 - impressions

#Occupy down at Los Angeles City Hall. Occupy LA is about three times as large as it was last time I was down there, two weeks ago. I didn't do much in the way of interviewing this time, so I'll let the images, the music etc do the talking. It was day 22 of the occupation of the city hall, and I see no sign of it abating. Although the population here consists mostly of the very young, there are a number of older people - in some cases very old - in attendance. Let it be understood - people are mad, and they aren't taking it any more. This movement is real, and it's massive. don't forget to check out movetoamend.org -

But few would have guessed that the police brutality would reach the levels it has in recent weeks -- especially upon the orders of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who at first appeared to be an ally of the movement. And Stephen Colbert could not be more supportive of his "fellow One Percenter." After showing a press conference wherein Bloomberg explained his reasoning behind forcibly removing the protesters from Zuccotti Park as protecting the crowd, Colbert pointed to the thug-like, menacing cop who was sent in to "protect everyone's health and safety." "There he is, helping the wounded and the sick with his two fists, Florence and Nightengale." How 'Occupy Wall Street' Was Organized From Day One

Connections between The Working Family Party, SEIU, ACORN, The New Party, The DNC, Democratic Socialists of America, Tides, George Soros and The Obama Administration: Patrick Gaspard, the current executive director of the DNC, former director of Obama's Office of Political Affairs, was an organizer for the New Party, the executive vice president of the SEIU Local 1199, political director for Bertha Lewis (the former president of ACORN) and a co-chair of the Working Families Party. The New Party is a socialist political coalition co-founded in 1992 by academic and political activist Joel Rogers. The first strategic meetings to plan the New Party were held in Joel Rogers' Madison, Wisconsin home; Wade Rathke, ACORN and SEIU founder and Gerry Hudson from Democratic Socialists of America and SEIU were in attendance at those meetings. The New Party's influential Chicago chapter began to formed in January 1995. Its members consisted mainly of individuals from ACORN, SEIU and the Democratic Socialists of America. Obama attended a New Party function and received their endorsement in 1995. In 1994, a New Party newspaper listed more than 100 activists "who are building the NP;" some names among the list of 100 were Noam Chomsky, Frances Fox Piven, Wade Rathke, Cornel West, Jon Barton of SEIU, Maude Hurd of ACORN and Margaret Shelleda of SEIU. Tucson's Finest checking on how the Occupy Tucson meeting went.

Occupy Tucson Change of Venue: Armory Park by Art Jacobson on Oct. 10, 2011, under Occupy Wall Stree, Politics The Data Port attended the second planning session for October 15th's peaceful protest and occupation of a Tucson public park. Similar occupations will take place on that date all across America, in solidarity with New York's "Occupy Wall Street" protest. I estimate there must have been about two hundred people gathered in Veinte de Agosto Park...Pancho Villa Park... to practice consensus democracy and plan for the occupation. Trying to plan and deal with agenda items by consensus, rather than simple majority voting, seems to proceed with glacial determination. But consensus voting also appears to solidify the group and reduce factions. Most of the continuing planning and organization takes place on Facebook, and there has been a good deal of thoughtful planning for the protest. Occupy Tucson has created eight separate work groups to organize the occupation: · Legal Support Working Group · Art/Design Working Group · Food/Water Working Group · IT/Online-Media Working Group · PR/Outreach Working Group · Kitchen/Clean-Up Working Group · Peacekeeping/Security Working Group · Medical Working Group There were plenty of young people in attendance. There were also plenty of older folks, well into their sixties and seventies, all of whom counted themselves as part of the "99%" who had been injured by an unregulated financial industry and tax policies that favored only 1 ...
