Occupy Berkeley: 'Cops hit us with batons in stomachs'

Seven University of California students were arrested and dozens of others suffered bruises and abrasions following a police crackdown on an attempted encampment at a local plaza on Wednesday. "We had the tents set up for about a half an hour when the police decided they wanted to shut down the camp," student protester Eric Uribe recalled in an interview with RT. "What the students did is they set up a human wall around the tents. Soon after that, the police approached with full force in riot gear, with batons. We had no intention to move, but they jabbed some of us repeatedly in the stomach, pulling people onto the floor and arresting them." Hundreds of protesters had gathered at the town's Sproul Plaza to protest against tuition fee increases and public education funding cuts. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

Police Brutality Occupy Berkeley Protest

Occupy Cal Berkeley Protest - Police Brutality. As the evening wore on, the crowd swelled as protesters debated whether to stay overnight.at least 39 protesters were arrested on Wednesday at the Berkeley campus, the epicenter of the statewide college protests. Another 11 students were arrested at UCLA. The university reported earlier that an administrator had told the protesters they could stay around the clock for a week, but only if they didn't pitch tents or use stoves or other items that would suggest people were sleeping there. The protesters voted not to comply with the demand and to go ahead with setting up a tent site they dubbed "Occupy Cal" to protest financial policies they blame for causing deep cuts in higher education spending.Protesters put up tents in defiance of Chancellor Robert Birgeneau, who on Wednesday said that while the university shares many principles with Occupy activists, they would not be allowed to set up camps on campus or take over any buildings.

Police violence at Occupy Berkeley - Dec 22, 2011

After the first police attack near the truck, the second wave of police brutality begins at around 4:10. BACKGROUND: After serving Occupy Berkeley with an eviction notice, on 12/21 and the early morning of 12/22, Berkeley police began making quick incursions into the Occupy Berkeley camp to steal as many tents and belongings as possible before being repelled by occupants. At around 2AM on 12/22, a public works truck filled with the campers' stolen gear pulled up across the street from the camp, near a dumpster. It appeared the belongings were to be thrown in the dumpster. The video begins as individuals are attempting to reclaim their stolen property and are promptly attacked by the police. (The police station is across the street from the camp.)

Occupy Berkeley

Sunday 12 11 2011. I went to Occupy Berkeley to see what was going on there. It was mostly poor, homeless people camping out in a small city park in the rain. At least they were not having their possessions confiscated and being forced to evacuate in the middle of the night like Occupy San Francisco was.

UCB English Professor Celeste Langan (1st woman pulled) offers out her wrists and tells police they can arrest her -- they yank her out by the hair and do the same with two students. The police were intent on destroying the Occupy Cal encampment tents. At 1:33, because a woman is pinned to a bush and being batoned, a man tries to help her but gets pulled out and beaten by police. Students TOOK A STAND and stayed! The police had to retreat. Later that night, students voted 570 to 30 for a UNIVERSITYWIDE STRIKE Tuesday, Nov. 15 to defend public education and stop cuts, fee hikes, and privatization. OCCUPY BERKELEY - So Called Police Beat Up Unarmed Protesters. This Has Gone Too Far

Just who the hell do these peices of shit think they are? These bastards dont deserve to wear any uniform, let alone the police one. Enough is enough. Time to dish out some of their own medicine. Im sick to death watching these bastards that were bullied at school using the uniform as some kind of power trip. They are arseholes, plain and simple. And as for anyone saying "oh, not all police are like that", well i say that any police that stand by and let this sort of thing happen are even worse than the ones carrying out the beating. So police, why dont you take a fuck to yourselves. Police, you were bullied at school for a reason - and that is that you are peices of shit, always have been n always will be And a little message to obama and norman napolitano - you better pray the people never get thier hands on you both. This beating in the video will look tame in comparison to you pair of filthy inbreds swinging by the neck

12/22/2011 A group of about 20 Occupy Berkeley protesters clashed with police Thursday morning after refusing to leave their camp by the Wednesday deadline. Video from the scene shows protesters and police engaged in a shoving match. Protesters shouted as officers used batons to push them back. There were no arrests. Police told protesters to leave Civic Center Park by 10 pm Wednesday night. Most left peacefully, but some stayed through the night. An Occupy videographer known as OakFoSho who has been at the encampment throughout the night said police took down a handful of tents in three separate "hit-and-run" raids since 6 pm Just after 2 am one protester, who others called "Bo," exited the police station down the block from the park and said he had been cited for obstruction of justice and his camera was taken away as evidence. He had suffered a chin injury after after allegedly being "hit in the face" by police. Volunteers bandaged his chin outside the police station. The notice protesters were served, which is dated Dec. 20, 2011, says that Civic Center Park, where the camp has existed largely unchallenged for the past two months, is closed at 10 pm and that those persons in the park when it is closed will be subject to arrest. Occupy Berkeley - December 22 - Police Aggression & Brutality in 1080 - Engagement 1 of 2

I've been up for 36 hours (I don't do those drugs), but I wanted to get this up before sleep. This is a draft description. Occupy Berkeley & Occupy Oakland protestors ACT as Berkeley Police use the distraction of an Occupier's arrest - parading the man in front of us and into the front door of the police station - to sneak an unmarked pickup truck to the southeast corner of the Occupy Berkeley camp site (The Alamo). Two Berkeley Police officers SNATCHED the two closest tents, like some kind of literal thieves in the night. Occupy Berkeley and Occupy Oakland protestors rush the small group of Berkeley PD officers, assailing them with shouts and chants, which cowed these obviously terrified officers, forcing a total retreat. The swine DID keep the tents, but they put a big dent in their truck driving over other camper's possessions in their haste to vacate the area. The kicker is that the one pig had the nerve to say "You guys are being aggressive towards us." Really dude? Who was the group who STOLE HOMELESS PEOPLES PROPERTY with WEAPONS DRAWN like SNAKES in the grass? I don't seem to remember that description applying to nonviolent protestors. Bite my shiny 1080 metal ass. PS To the MainStream Media guy who said: "No dude, I'm here and covering this.. We're not doing a bad job. The only reason Occupy is so big is because we [the MSM] are giving you such great coverage." (i swear this is true) Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah!! Occupy Berkeley 11/09/2011 - student-police conflict

The assembly started on Nov. 9th 2011 from 12:00 PM. The police injured and arrested several students around later afternoon. At night, around 10:00 PM, Alameda police showed up in riot gear and surrounded the Sproul Hall in Berkeley camps. Approximately 40 students were arrested, and many beaten up. The tents were striped away as well. After the second police raid, the students and the police held their own lines.

Occupy Berkeley - December 22 - Police Aggression & Brutality in 1080 - Engagement 2 of 2

I've been up for 36 hours (I don't do those drugs), but I wanted to get this up before sleep. This is a draft description. Occupy Berkeley & Occupy Oakland protestors ACT as Berkeley Police attempt to have city workers dump STOLEN possessions into a dumpster in front of Berkeley Police Department. Some individuals attempt to retrieve their STOLEN belongings by blocking the egress of the city truck containing the STOLEN items. This brings the boys & girls in blue running out to quell the action. Much shouting ensues, and police lose control, assaulting and battering nonviolent (albeit very mad) protestors. Protestors retain control, and do not show any violence towards the police. Medics were targeted specifically for violence. One man was floored by a baton to the chin, and was later detained as he sought medical attention OFFERED by the police while his background was checked. The police STOLE this mans camera, which contained evidence of the attacks by Berkeley Police. Too bad for BPD, he wasn't the only one filming. In the end, the police don't like the situation, and retreat into their building, not to return till at least the time of this posting. PS To the MainStream Media guy who said: "No dude, I'm here and covering this.. We're not doing a bad job.
