The Socialist OWS mob invades Oakland, California: "Occupy Oakland"

"America has to wake up to this new reality: the Cold War battle between communism and capitalism is back, only this time it's on our front porch. It went underground in the 70s, got an education, put on a suit, bought a house and had a couple of kids. Then it used the schools to educate new foot soldiers and manipulated the pop culture to indoctrinate the next generation of fellow travelers who seek to create a new world order in the image of old world Marxism." Oakland Revolt: Occupy cop crackdown

The city of Oakland, California, is reeling after one of the biggest protests the 'Occupy Wall Street' movement has seen. About 80 demonstrators were arrested and several injured after what started as a peaceful rally was met with a heavy-handed police response at the end of the day. Hours before that, thousands of anti-corporate protesters forced a shutdown of America's fifth largest sea port. That's as the general strike - America's first in over half a century - also paralyzed several businesses in Oakland's downtown. RT correspondent, Lucy Kafanov, was at the very heart of unfolding events throughout and describes how they developed. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

Occupy Berkeley: 'Cops hit us with batons in stomachs'

Seven University of California students were arrested and dozens of others suffered bruises and abrasions following a police crackdown on an attempted encampment at a local plaza on Wednesday. "We had the tents set up for about a half an hour when the police decided they wanted to shut down the camp," student protester Eric Uribe recalled in an interview with RT. "What the students did is they set up a human wall around the tents. Soon after that, the police approached with full force in riot gear, with batons. We had no intention to move, but they jabbed some of us repeatedly in the stomach, pulling people onto the floor and arresting them." Hundreds of protesters had gathered at the town's Sproul Plaza to protest against tuition fee increases and public education funding cuts. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

Freed US Hikers Speak at Occupy Oakland, Express Support for CA Prisoners on Hunger Strike

www.DemocracyNow.org - Shane Bauer, Josh Fattal and Sarah Shourd — the three American hikers once imprisoned in Iran — made a surprise visit to Occupy Oakland on Monday less than a month after Bauer and Fattal were released from prison. In July of 2009, the three were arrested while hiking near the Iran-Iraq border. Shourd was released last year. On Monday, the hikers were welcomed by a thrilled crowd of supporters at Occupy Oakland. Democracy Now! airs an excerpt of their speech to the crowd of protesters. "These occupations were just starting when we got out, starting in New York City, and we were hearing about it little bit by little bit, but it wasn't until getting back here to this city [Oakland] that it really hit me that this is serious," Bauer said. "This is big. And I feel proud of it, and I feel proud of it happening in my city." Bauer also criticized Iran for pressuring Masoud Shafii, the former attorney of the hikers. Since their release Shafii was arrested and denied the right to travel abroad. Police violence at Occupy Berkeley - Dec 22, 2011

After the first police attack near the truck, the second wave of police brutality begins at around 4:10. BACKGROUND: After serving Occupy Berkeley with an eviction notice, on 12/21 and the early morning of 12/22, Berkeley police began making quick incursions into the Occupy Berkeley camp to steal as many tents and belongings as possible before being repelled by occupants. At around 2AM on 12/22, a public works truck filled with the campers' stolen gear pulled up across the street from the camp, near a dumpster. It appeared the belongings were to be thrown in the dumpster. The video begins as individuals are attempting to reclaim their stolen property and are promptly attacked by the police. (The police station is across the street from the camp.)

Kayvan Sabehgi, an Iraq/Afghan Army Ranger Vet, was walking away from an Occupy Oakland gathering, when confronted by a line of Oakland Police. After asking the officers why they were lining up, Kayvan was assaulted and suffered a lacerated spleen due to a brutal baton beating by the OPD. Kayvan was then arrested and held in a cell for 18 hours with no medical attention, despite his repeated requests for help. "They lined up in front of me. I was talking to one of them, saying, 'Why are you doing this?' When one moved forward and hit me in the arms, legs and back with his baton. Then three or four cops tackled me and arrested me." - Kayvan Sabehgi, Source: The Guardian 11/4/11 Kayvan went to an Oakland area hospital and remains in intensive care, after his release from jail.
