Occupy Cultural Media

Every child should have the rights of protection from adult subject matter in the public arena. The creators of this massive cultural influence control a multi-billion dollar industry that profits greatly at the expense of our children. By allowing this industry to own the message we have been complicit in its delivery. By allowing constant bombardment of our children with hyper sexualized images, We are grooming our girls to believe they are objects to be scrutinized and used for sexual pleasure. We are grooming our boys to be predators incapable of experiencing truly intimate relationships. Sadly, we have created a fabric of cultural influence where both genders suffer in immeasurable ways. At Occupy Cultural Media, with decade's worth of supporting statistics, we are claiming an emotional and mental state of emergency for our younger citizens. Our goal through this movement is to reclaim the public dialogue and space via all media for our children, for our women, for our men. We are supporters of the rights of free speech and freedom of expression. We do not believe in censorship. Based on decades of research that clearly define healthy childhood development, we are compelled to dispute the presentation of sexually explicit imagery to our children by the manufacturers of mainstream culture. This imagery is demeaning and destructive. We invite you to join us in an open, free conversation on this topic and to brainstorm ways to hold each other accountable, as well as the ...

Mainstream media vs. Occupy Wall Street -- the battle

While the MSM criticizes the demonstrators for being anarchist hippies, corporate media outlets don't actually go into the crowd that much to listen to what the frustrated people have to say. Reporters go live from across the street. TV satellite trucks are on stand-by for violence and arrests. The independent and foreign channels are the ones covering the important issues from within the action. RT's Anastasia Churkina takes a look at media coverage of Occupy Wall Street.

Keith Olbermann calls out Media Blackout on 'Occupy Wall Street' Protest

Keith Olbermann pointed out Wednesday night on Countdown that the major newspapers had been ignoring the five-day-long "Occupy Wall Street" protests, but would have scrambled to cover a similar-sized tea party protest. "Why isn't any major news outlet covering this?" he asked. "If that's a tea party protest in front of Wall Street about Ben Bernanke putting stimulus funds into it, it's the lead story on every network news cast. How is that disconnect possible in this country today with so many different outlets and so many different ways of transmitting news?" His guest, author Will Bunch, suggested the disconnect was caused in part by the news networks being out of touch with the pain of the 25 million Americans who are unemployed.

Occupy Wall Street protests spread all over US despite police brutality & corporate media blackout

Many protesters say the mainstream media is undergoing a black-out since many corporate networks sleep in the same bed with Wall Street. Most of the 700 protesters arrested in the "Occupy Wall Street" march onto the Brooklyn Bridge in New York have been released. The unabashed demonstrators promise more marches to slam "corporate domination" and America's crippled economy. The protesters were charged with disorderly conduct and summoned to appear in criminal court. The small group still remaining in custody is awaiting identification. The mass arrests on Saturday by the New York Police Department came during the protesters' march onto the Brooklyn Bridge, when thousands of protesters failed to keep to the sidewalks, eventually blocking car traffic. That, at least, is what the NYPD says. As the "Occupy Wall Street" protest enters its third week, it has gained nationwide support, with unions joining in. Still, little apparent support has come from corporate US media, which mostly plays down the importance of the event or toes the police line, omitting scenes of police brutality and questioning the credibility of the protesters. Cops might be cracking down on Occupy Wall Street protesters in New York City, but activists are now bringing their big-bank bashing across the country with demonstrations springing up from coast-to-coast. More than a week after protests began in Lower Manhattan, the Occupy Wall Street movement is moving, well, off of Wall Street. Both Los Angeles ...

Police Drugging Occupy Minnesota Activists Goes Viral!

Video documentation by local activists and independent media shows that police officers and county deputies from across Minnesota have been picking up young people near Peavey Plaza for a training program to recognize drug-impaired drivers. Multiple participants say officers gave them illicit drugs and provided other incentives to take the drugs. The Occupy movement, present at Peavey Plaza since April 7th, appears to be targeted as impaired people are dropped off at the Plaza, and others say they've been rewarded for offering to snitch on the movement. Local independent media activists and members of Communities United Against Police Brutality began investigating police conduct around the Plaza after witnessing police dropping off impaired people at the plaza and hearing rumors that they were offering people drugs. We videotaped police conduct and interviewed participants, learning some very disturbing information about the DRE program. Officers stated on record the DRE program, run by the Minnesota State Patrol, has no Institutional Review Board or independent oversight. They agreed no ambulances or EMTs were on site at the Richfield MnDOT facility near the airport where most subjects were taken. Multiple times, participants left Peavey Plaza sober, returned intoxicated, and said they'd been given free drugs by law enforcement. We documented on more than one occasion, someone being told they were sober by one officer, and then picked up by a different officer, and ...

www.mediaroots.org Abby Martin of Media Roots was on the front lines of the war in the streets of Oakland during the aftermath of the Occupy Oakland general strike and shutdown of the port on November 2, 2011. Over 10000 peaceful protesters successfully shut down the Port of Oakland, the fifth largest port in the country at 8pm earlier that night. About two hours later, the anarchist "Black Bloc" came to downtown, smashing windows of banks and setting trash cans on fire. The Oakland PD in full riot gear lined up and marched toward the now out of control rally. They started firing smoke grenades and tear gas into the crowd of people, to which people starting throwing bottles and other objects back to the police. While the mainstream media has been spending endless hours having producers cut clips from last night's shows, like 'Dancing with the Stars', and wasting air time talking about the entertainment world, let's remember something that's going on in our very real world right now. That's Occupy Wall Street, the protest that's been taking place since Saturday, September 17th where an estimated two thousand people came out. Now four days in, there are about 150 to 200 protesters who still remain camped out in Zuccoti Park, dubbed Liberty Plaza. At least five people have been arrested but the mainstream media remains not entertained.
