Tens of thousands of people in hundreds of cities around the word have been venting their fury against the greed of the big banks - and the debt management inflicted by their governments. Inspired by the 'Occupy Wall Street' movement in Manhattan, protests took hold in Europe, Asia, and around the US - with some turning violent. Over 10000 Occupy Wall Street protesters have shut down the port of Oakland in California. It follows a violent police crackdown there when police stormed the demonstrators' staging ground last week. A former US Marine suffered a fractured skull when he was hit by a projectile when police tried to clear a protest camp in central Oakland. Police fired teargas to disperse the raucous crowds. Activists organized a series of rallies in 82 countries around the world on Saturday. 100000 protesters were expected to turn up in Italy's capital a day after Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi narrowly passed a confidence vote. The violence in the capital was believed to be spurred by hooded militants known as "black blocks," a group that has infiltrated demonstrations in the past.

Davis College Republicans shot footage of the controversial Occupy UC Davis protest.
