Sébastien Ogier has been signed as the first official Volkswagen driver for the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). The 27-year-old Frenchman and his co-driver Julien Ingrassia (31) are joining the Volkswagen Motorsport squad effective immediately. Ogier, who finished the 2011 WRC in third place, will be instrumental in helping to shape the development of the Polo R WRC for Volkswagen's 2013 entry in the World Rally Championship. World Rally Championship royalty sampled Volkswagen's new-for-2013 Polo R WRC when Carlos Sainz, known affectionately as The King, took part in the German make's test in Spain recently. Sainz, a two-time WRC champion and an advisor to Volkswagen, completed initial testing of the prototype Polo back in November. During a recent test in his homeland, the 49-year-old accompanied Volkswagen's lead driver Sebastien Ogier during a number of runs in the latest version of the car before getting behind the wheel himself. "During my active days [in the WRC] I drove thousands of test kilometres and hope to be able to support Volkswagen with my experience," said Sainz. "I have a lot of confidence in the squad and the Polo R WRC will no doubt be a big hit. But we mustn't forget that 2013 will be the Polo's first year in the WRC whereas the competition will have been active there for many years." Volkswagen Motorsport chief Kris Nissen said: "The test in Spain served to simulate the roughest WRC sections and to take the car to its load and stress limits. Particularly chassis components such as the hub carriers, dampers and suspension components were successfully tested in the limit range. Carlos Sainz and Sebastien Ogier are working together extremely well forming a very good combination. They respect each other without any rivalry and are purposefully driving the project forwards. The two rally aces -- Ogier is seen by many experts as future world rally champion, Sainz, with two title wins and 26 rally victories is one of the most successful drivers in WRC history -- covered around 700 kilometres, equating to about twice the distance of a WRC rally, without any problem in order to take new vehicle components to their stress and load limits and to thus gather important findings for the further development. Volkswagen will be making its debut in the World Rally Championship with the Polo R WRC in 2013 and is running an extensive testing and development programme until then. Big battle in Finland between the two Frenchmen Loeb and Ogier. At the end, this is a new win for Loeb, as Ogier suffered of a puncture during SS17. We can see with his onboard camera that the rhythm of his Citroen is not quite as fast as it should be... Then we have Loeb during final stage, en route for his 4th win of the season.
As expected, tactics played a big part on the final day of Rally Australia. First, Jari-Matti Latvala slows at the end of Stage 25 allowing Ford team-mate Mikko Hirvonen to win round ten of the championship. Meanwhile, at Citroën, Sébastien Ogier stops completely during the same stage, ensuring Sébastien Loeb picks up at least one championship point. Later, the world champion will earn three more points winning the Power Stage.

Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia snatched victory in Rally Jordan in the very last stage, the Power Stage shown live on TV throughout the world. The Citroën Total World Rally Team crew won by two-tenths of a second, the smallest gap ever at the end of a WRC round. Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena, who came third, have now taken the overall lead in the Drivers' World Championship, while Citroën is now dead-heating for first place in the Manufacturers' World Championship.
