Pozegnanie Ojczyzny (Farewell to motherland)- Oginski

This version was played for generations by my family. Now, It is my turn. I associate it with an army that has to leave motherland to fight and perhaps never return. I remember the polish forests, the lakes and the beauty of that country.

Oginski (1765-1833) Polonez 'Farewell to Fatherland' or Pozegnanie Ojczyzny -piano

Oginski wrote this heart-rending farewell while exiled in France in 1810 and this is a massive hit in Eastern Europe and Russia but virtually unheard of in the West!!!!! This is the polonaise which moved Chopin so much that he wrote his first polonez. This piece is so popular that it has been played on any instrument you can think of....

Oginski Polonez Pozegnanie Ojczyzny best version ever- Wieslawa Bogaczewicz - Bieda

Here played on an old Steinway piano which sings.(sorry about the clicking noise from camera zoom button).. Original polish title Pozegnanie Ojczyzny--Oginski is the great unsung hero of Polish music ( late Mozart early Beethoven era ) whose polonaises profoundly influenced Chopin and how--here is your chance to sample this heart caressing piece--if it was good enough for Chopin it's good enough for us mere mortals- melancholia, romanza, obsession - all in one- a melting pot of emotion personified! Please let a pianist in the west take this up and popularise it the way Nigel Kennedy did Monti Csardas! Wieslawa Bogaczewicz Bieda comes from aa family of musicians- her late husband Wieslaw was a great pianist, organist and an accordinist- her daughter Gosha ( Malgorzata) Bieda ( see "Rhapsody on a theme of Mozart" on youtube) is also a brilliant pianist and son Krzytof a guitarist- she studied in Warsaw and Krakow music academy and is a Piano teacher. She lives partly in Warsaw but mostly in beautiful lake region of Mragowo ( northern Poland).

Peter Plays Polonaise by Oginski

Peter is 10, he plays Polonaise by Oginski without much feelings Yet, he hopes to get better. Please note that he aware of his "speedy" pace,...but otherwise he would refuse to play it - he considers it boring to play it slow... May be in a few years he would appreciate the meaning and true tempo of this piece! Cheers!

Best polonaise ever & it's not Chopin but his hero Oginski 's best Polonez 'Les Adieux' in C minor

Pianists of the western world take note.....an undiscovered gem...it's about time this is included in every pianist's repertoire.. Oginki : polonaise no. 6 'Les Adieux' - Oginski is well known for his 'Farewell to Homeland' or 'Pozegnanie Ojczyzny 'but this little known yet exceptionally ethereal, passionate and at times stoically subliminal polonaise proves that he was not a one hit wonder. No wonder Chopin was so moved by Oginski's polonaise at the tender age of 9 that he cried and wrote his first polonaise....fancy a polonaise that starts with a dramatic burst of staccato ... I had to upload this masterpiece simply to show how much it has moved me.......!!!!

Oginski's Polonaise in Moscow Metro

Each time a fare-dodger jumps over a tourniquet in the Moscow Metro, the automatic alarm plays the first tones of the 'Farewell to Homeland', a famous Polonaise by the Belarusian-Polish composer Michał Kleofas Ogiński. A bit of nostalgia for any person from the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth :)
