Originally intended for Donna Summer's aborted follow-up to "Another Place & Time", Lonnie makes it her own and in turn created an underground club smash and pop misfire that deserves another look.
It's "Let's Go Crazy" gone sorta rockabilly (and strangely recalls its spiritual godchild, Rachel Stevens "I Said Never Again", from 2005 - not an easy trick, considering that aped Adam Ant) - third single from "Teases and Dares", and the lone UK top 20 hit from said album.
When there's nothing anyone can do..... Forgotten PWL diva, with a gem of a tune that was remixed endlessly to still not end up a top 10 hit....
First European single off of the "Close" album; another duet with Junior Giscombe; it was soon eclipsed by the massive (everywhere but the US) "You Came".
One of my fondest childhood memories of watching really bad tv was seeing Connie Stevens attempt this number on the Tonight Show back in 1981 - here is the much more palpable original, and its still a fine song~

RIP Ms Vesta Williams. A brilliant set of pipes that deserved much more success than she was afforded. As for the song NOT from any vampire movie, though lyrically the parallel themes are there, this was the longtime b-vox extraordinaire's debut single for A&M that managed to end up a UK top 15 single - and with good reason. Written by veteran r&b man Dave Crawford, who gave Candi Staton her disco makeover (and Dee Dee Warwick her second best single), this is seemless and perfect R&B/Pop of the old skool variety - and a great cover for one of the young belters of today. US R&B Charts No 9 (which is where the Top 10 status I knew it acquired somewhere came from)
Kim and the infamous "menz'" video - second single (though it showed up in the US in late 1986 the first time) from "Another Step", a UK Top 40 and US Top 50 single.
Deliciously tarty, especially when you factor in that the song was written by her father and brother - something even Joe Simpson has yet to try - and let's hear it for taking it out in the ring.

Andrew Gold - he of "Lonely Boy" and the Golden Girls theme song fame - teamed up with an ex-10cc guy and did a couple of pretty ok albums for RCA in the late 80s, the highlight being this shoulda been huge single.....
Clap pat, clap slap. Missed out in the US due to Pia Zadora's competing version (don't ask). These gals were a fun little band.
Fourth single and video from the surprise hit "Big Bang" is a nice cover of Yoko's 1981 single.
