It looks like the "squares" are moving up and down. 00:45 - Look to both center circuls, they are the same size. 00:50 - How many legs has the elephant? 01:01 - Impossible picture. 01:06 - How many coluns has the temple? 01:26 - The center lines have the same size. 01:32 - It's a perfect square, but it looks like the sides are rounded. 01:56 - Where are they sitting? 02:01 - Those "rectangules" have the same size. 02:17 Look to one spiral, it looks like the others are twirling. 02:21 - Another impossible picture. if you want a better description of a illusion, send me a message. The design is just so simple and yet the illusion is so amazing. This illusion has been around for a long time but always in the form of an image. It was created by MIT professor Edward H. Adelson. I wanted to take it from a flat piece of paper and turn it into a real, life sized illusion that I could interact with to demonstrate the effect. The illusion works because of the "shadow" that falls on the checkerboard. Lets think of the square that the shadow falls on. Now picture that the shadow doesnt exist, you would see a light colored square surrounded by the dark colored squares. But when the shadow falls on top of that light colored square, the shadow causes the shade to become darker but it also causes the surrounding darker squares to become darker. So within the shadow region the brightness and darkness of the squares are still relative to one another. But they are no longer relative to the squares that lie outside of the shadow. For example, it may be illuminated by the sunlight, the light of a fire, or a harsh electric light. In all of these situations, the visual system indicates that the object has the same color: an apple always appears red, whether viewed at night or during the day. This feature of the visual system is called chromatic adaptation. Have you ever entered a movie theater on a sunny afternoon? The room probably appeared completely dark but as your visual system adjusted to the reduced level of light you were able to see better after a few moments. This "adaptation mechanism" allows our eyes to recover from an oversensitivity to a particular stimuli. "Chromatic adaptation" occurs when our eyes adjust to certain color stimuli. Impossible motion: magnet-like slopes
Winner of the Best Visual Illusion of the Year Contest 2010 illusioncontest.neuralcorrelate.com Koukichi Sugihara Meiji Institute for Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciences, Japan In this video, wooden balls roll up the slopes just as if they are pulled by a magnet. The behavior of the balls seems impossible, because it is against the gravity. The video is not a computer graphic, but a real scene. What is actually happening is that the orientations of the slopes are perceived oppositely, and hence the descending motion is misinterpreted as ascending motion. This illusion is remarkable in that it is generated by a three-dimensional solid object and physical motion, instead of a two-dimensional picture.

The Hollow Face Illusion
This is a wonderful optical illusion. This little dragon is made out of paper - you simply cut it out and stick it together, and stand it on a table or window ledge. But when you move around, the dragon's head seems to follow you around the room. Have a look at the video, to see what we mean. The effect is really uncanny.
