Ibn Al-Haytham - The First Scientist - Origin of the Camera

Ibn Al-Haytham (965 in Basra - c. 1039 in Cairo) also known as Alhazen is credited with developing "The Scientific Method". He was a polymath from the Muslim world who made significant contributions to the principles of optics, as well as to anatomy, astronomy, engineering, mathematics, medicine, ophthalmology, philosophy, physics, psychology and visual perception. ---------- Discoveries made from the 7th to 17th centuries by multi-faith scientists in Muslim civilisation have had a huge but hidden influence on the modern world. Knowledge from Assyrian, Babylonian, Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Indian, Persian and Roman civilisations was highly prized in the Muslim world. Men and women scholars advanced science by building upon the ancients and making breakthroughs that paved the way for the European Renaissance. This Golden Age of Discovery in the Muslim World (southern Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia and to China) took place during the so-called Dark Ages of Europe. Muslim civilisation promoted free-thinking, rationalism and tolerance. Many scholars expressed their faith by seeking to serve society and improve quality of life for others. Dual Optic Set-up for AR-15 - Diligent Pursuit

Mounting both a scope and a red dot on your AR-15 gives you the ability to quickly transition between near and far targets. However, making it both comfortable and fast to switch between the two takes some doing. This set-up mounts a Bushnell TRS-25 directly to the body of a Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40 scope using a Tactical Night Vision SAR-1 mount. The combination is great when you're shooting a wide range of distances. Simply roll the rifle over about 20 degrees to put the red dot in front of your eye. With the red dot properly positioned, your cheek weld will not change. (Note: The set-up shown is for a left-handed shooter. Obviously, right handers would put the red dot on the opposite side of the scope.) The TNVC SAR-1 mounts directly to the 1" body of the Leupold scope and allows the red dot to be rotated into any position. (TNVC also makes a 30mm version.) I found that having this flexibility lets you achieve a better position for your cheek weld than does using a fixed mount. The down side of the SAR-1 mount is its $79 cost. Still, I haven't found an alternative that let me tune the red dot position so well. By the way, I've also been quite happy with the Burris PEPR scope mount. I bought it originally for its picatiny ring tops, and in fact I mounted a (different) red dot on top of the front ring initially. This worked, but in order to sight on the red dot I had to raise my cheek off the stock, moving my head upward into an awkward position. After tiring of that, I ...

Ray Optics Demonstration

The Ray Optics Demonstration Set is large enough for classroom presentations yet is portable for your convenience. Includes thirteen large acrylic optical models with magnetized coatings on their bases, allowing rapid setup and adjustment. When used with our Laser Ray Box, the light ray paths are clearly visible in a normally-illuminated room, both in air and inside the models. The paths can be clearly followed through several successive model elements, allowing the ray diagrams of simple optical instruments to be demonstrated. www.cencophysics.com

Center Point Optics Field Test

A few weeks back, I won a FREE rifle scope from Center Point Optics... It's an Adventure Class 3-9x50mm scope with AO Paralax adjustment and Illuminated Red/Green Mil-Dot reticle... I mounted it on my GAMO Whisper Air Rifle and figured I'd make a little field test video to show how well it's been holding up... I start off with a couple of targets @ 30 yards, then adjust elevation and shoot another target @ 100 yards, then I adjust back to the 30 yard zero and take a few more shots... All shots were taken at center reticle using Crosman Premier Hollow Point pellets... A big thanx goes out to Josh and everyone else at Center Point Optics for running the scope giveaway contest... Great Company!!

Reviewing TRUGLO Tritium / Fiber Optic Sights - Night Shooting techniques

Reviewing TRUGLO Tritium / Fiber Optic Sights - Night Shooting techniques In this video I review the TRUGLO Tritium / Fiber Optic Sights and see if they live up to the hype. These sites use fiber optics to enhance the sights using ambient & surrounding light. The radioactive tritium glows without the need from any light source = great for low light and night operations. I also show some techniques for using a tactical light (TLR-3) with my Glock 23 with Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel. Great because you can identify a friendly or threat, then take the appropriate action. I also transition from tac light to the tritium sights and they work real well. Cost of the TRUGLO TFO sights = $124 Need some more practice but I like the sights. I hope this helps. Steve

Nightforce Optics -- New High-Speed Adjustments -- SHOT Show 2010

Nightforce is upgrading its scopes for 2010, adding a high-speed adjustment system that doubles the elevation travel available with one turn of the elevation knob. Offered in the 15x, 22x, 32x, and 42x series, this means you can get 20 MOA of elevation with a single revolution (on a 1/4 MOA click scope). That's a big advantage for varminters and tactical shooters who change distances frequently. Now, with most calibers, you can zero from 100 to 700 yards (or beyond) with a single turn.
