Me testing my new digital storage oscilloscope model DSO-5200A USB Oscilloscope brand Hantek, made in China. It has an analog bandwidth of 200MHz, 9 bits of vertical resolution, sample rate of 250MS/s (in ETS mode up to 50GS/s) and works connected to the USB port of a PC. So far I am pleased with this oscilloscope, it is very stable. Also the spectrum analyzer is very useful. This DSO has great application to test RF circuits and home made circuits. The test oscillator circuit assembled in my bread board is based on quartz crystal (Xtal) and the IC 74HC14 (hex inverting schmitt trigger). I am using Xtal with values of 3.57MHz, 10MHz, 16MHz and 20MHz.

This is an old 50's vintage Bell and Howell Schools oscilloscope. I've gutted it and converted to a standard mATX PC case. The original screen was removed and replaced with a $15 "lumidisk" that just happened to be the exact size, shape and green color as the original round CRT tube. The front panel's knobs and switches turn on the power, turn the display disk on/off, act as the reset button and open/close the hidden DVD-RW drive (mounted on the side.) It's nothing special inside, just a cheapo Celeron D at 2.13ghz and basic peripherals...120 GB drive, this runs my webserver, webcam, and downloads torrents all day while I'm at work or otherwise engaged...

Audio: Sound of 'line noise' noise on IC-756PROII in AM mode Video: Output of Spectrum Analyzer's video output shown on a Tek453 oscilloscope display: - Top trace: a 60 Hz sine wave - Bottom Trace: the 'bouncing' noise pulses Spec Ana is in Zero Span mode, RBW=30 kHz, tuned to vicinity of 80M ham band (3.5 MHz) Scene: Scene starts zoomed in on Tek 453 CRT and finishes zommed in on trigger settings The power pole making this 'noise' was over a mile away near the downtown Allen TX area, across from 201 E. McDermott. The top trace is from a step-down transformer and shows a 60 Hz reference 'line' signal. The bottom trace shows the RF pulses received on an 80M dipole and displayed using the HP 8557A spectrum analyzer and an oscilloscope. An O-scope was used so a sinewave could be shown along with the RF power line pulse interference and show the phase relationship between the two. There are two pulses per 1/2 sine or 4 pulses for a complete cycle: one pulse each for arc initiation and arc extinction, giving four pulses per complete 60 Hz cycle. "Mack the Knife" was composed in 1928 by Kurt Weill for his then wife Lotte Lenya, the late Austrian cabaret singer, stage, and film actress . (For those who don't recall, she was the female villain in the second Bond film "From Russia with Love" who tried to kill Sir James with the pointed dagger that popped out from her shoe). Cor blimey I've got 4 oscilloscopes now! None of them function entirely perfectly though so together they make about 2 and a half fully functional oscilloscopes. I got this one from a fantastic electronics shop I discovered recently. It's very old and uses valves / vacum tubes, I reckon it's from around 1950. The trace seems to wander left and right of it's own accord however this isn't a big problem, you can still get it to show some nice wavey lines :)
