Veli Rat, Dugi Otok, Croatia
This Lighthouse was built in 1849 on the north-western Island of Dugi Otok, 20 M to the west of the town of Zadar. The nearest villages, Veli Rat, Verunic and Polje, are 3 km from the lighthouse. It is 9 km to the ferry port in Brbinj. The lighthouse is surrounded by tall pines, beautiful bays and pebble beaches. Veli Rat is one of the most beautiful lighthouses on the Croatian side of Adriatic. It has one 4-bed apartment and one 3-bed apartment for renting. Access to the lighthouse is possible by car, therefore, guests are assured of the regular supply of all provisions. It is possible to enjoy an active vacation combining sports and recreation, jogging and walking, swimming and diving. The surrounding shallow sea is rich in fish.

Goli Otok
Croatian Alcatraz. During the First World War Goli Otok was used as a detention camp of prisoners of war. After 1949 the island was the infamous Yugoslav prison for political convicts, which makes it today an interesting destination for numerous visitors.

Goli Otok is an island off the northern Adriatic coast Humans first took notice of the island during modern times. Throughout World War I, Austria-Hungary sent Russian prisoners of war from Eastern Front to Goli Otok. In 1949, the entire island was officially made into a high-security, top secret prison and labor camp run by the authorities of SFR Yugoslavia. Until 1956, throughout the Informbiro period, it was used to incarcerate political prisoners. They included known and alleged Stalinists, but also other Communist Party members or even regular citizens accused of exhibiting any sort of sympathy or leanings towards the Soviet Union. i have respect for Tito but until 1948 but aim Stalinist forever.
