How To Get Back Overdraft Fees From Your Bank

I saw an interesting report this weekend on how truly predatory some of our bank's overdraft fee policies are. Of course no one likes them, but one (slightly strange-looking) guy decided to fight back. He asked none other than perennial Green Party presidential candidate and consumer advocate Ralph Nader what he should do.

Two Maryland victims of banking system meet with Obama

October 9, 2009 Two Maryland victims of banking system meet with Obama A Baltimore woman and a retired city police officer were among five victims of the financial system invited to meet privately with President Barack Obama at the White House today. After the meeting, the president will deliver a speech about the need to overhaul financial regulations. Updated rules for the financial system are now being considered by Congress, and House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland said earlier this week that he expects the House to vote on the legislation next month. To underscore the need for change, Obama will be introduced by one of the five Americans who met with him. The group is to include Andrew Giordano, 61, a retired city police officer and wounded Vietnam veteran, who was penalized by overdraft fees that his bank imposed without asking him in advance, according to the White House. Giodano, who now lives in Locust Point and manages a fitness center for seniors, "receives a monthly government check of $123, which he keeps in a separate 'veterans account'—not his primary checking account. Last summer, he lost the ATM card for the veteran account and called his bank to cancel it and order a new one. To avoid mixing up his cards, he used a card with a special logo on it and he requested the same logo on his replacement card. Instead, the bank sent him a plain bank debit card, which he thought was for his primary account. For the next two weeks, he used the plain card ...

Obama urges creation of agency to regulate financial industry

Obama urges creation of agency to regulate financial industry With a key vote nearing, the president slams banks and business groups, saying they want only "to maintain the status quo that has maximized their profits at the expense of American consumers." By Jim Puzzanghera October 10, 2009 Reporting from Washington - President Obama tried to build momentum for the centerpiece of his overhaul of financial regulations -- a new agency to protect consumers -- by aiming to derail the strong opposition from business groups that threatens its passage by Congress. In some of his sharpest comments on the issue, Obama slammed banks and the US Chamber of Commerce for trying to block, or at least water down, the proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency as it heads toward a vote in a House committee next week. "They're doing what they always do, descending on Congress, using every bit of influence they have to maintain the status quo that has maximized their profits at the expense of American consumers, despite the fact that recently a whole bunch of those same American consumers bailed them out as a consequence of the bad decisions that they made," Obama said Friday at a White House gathering of key lawmakers, administration officials and other supporters. The consumer agency has wide support among Democrats, including Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts. Frank is chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, which takes up the measure next week. Bank of America Fees!! Ridiculous!!

www.youtube.com Bank of America has decided to start charging customers for the use of their atm cards for purchases during one of the worst economic times in US history. Starting early in 2012, B of A will charge their customers a $5.00 montly fee for the use of their atm cards when making a purchase. This is on top of the already ridiculous fees for overdraft protection, failing to maintain a minimum balance, and of course, credit card fees, and annual percentage rates. When will we be able to keep some of the money we earn?

Feds..Overdraft Protection Scam...How Typical On MSN.Com they'll call it "Bounce Fees" but not tonight, on prime time NBC, virtualy the same main-stream news source,MSNBC etc.etc...."Overdraft Protection, Feds Step In'.. Pure mediocre, legislation with NO Testicles, bunk. This crap goes way back to the Newt years..And it just gets worse. As the Bernard Allison background track says..."Your a Little Too Old...I Can't Tell Ya What To Do".. In other words, You Should Know Better. If you don't do the service to our country, your constituents...The Voice of the People...Your Fired...Get Ready... Up to 39 Billion in profits to be earned by B of A, Wells, Chase, and on & on in 2009, on forementioned fees. With Bush bailouts to boot. Yet this bunch of legislator's choose to buckle under, again to the banks. No wonder healthcare reform doesn't stand a chance...I could have have told ya that 2 years ago, way back in the BUSH years. The corruption is so intense.. I may loose some numbers, with this post, tonight, but it's worth it.. Since my Father's death in Dec. 08, I was glad to be moving on.. I was wrong. I grew tired of the fight, of the theme of Change, by President Obama whom I helped elect, with no regrets...The job IS HUGE and the incompetence high. So many, such as the largest health insurer in the nation, United Healthcare, Secure Horizons, AARP & Secure Horizons, & Evercare, don't want change.....Thank You, NBC and Aricept.com for bringing me back to the fight. Debit Cards, Banks and You the Consumer

As the economy struggles to climb out of a recession, banks are extending some of their most profitable — and controversial — credit card practices to checking accounts. For example, banks are making it easier and more punitive for consumers to spend more than they have in their checking accounts, just as they allow consumers to spend past their card limits and charge them a steep fee for doing so. Some analysts believe that new credit card restrictions will only accelerate fee increases on bank accounts. Financial Sector Report - January 6, 2011

Financial shares have remained lower into the late session as the broader market traded in mixed fashion for much of the day. In late-session financial sector news, Bank of America (BAC) shares are trading lower as the bank introduces new fees to replace debit card and overdraft charges, Bloomberg reports. Meanwhile, JPMorgan (JPM) shares are down after the bank was in the news several times today. First, Bloomberg reported the bank--along with other big names in the sector--face billions of dollars in legal bills related to their role in the financial crisis. Also, President Obama named JPMorgan executive Bill Daley--the former Commerce Secretary--as his new chief of staff.

Known as a tough, hands-on manager, Dimon was supposed to avert the sort of foolish risks that tempted so many of his peers. And sure enough, he was different. Instead of reviewing brief summaries of the bank's operations, as his predecessor had, Dimon demanded to see the raw data — hundreds of pages detailing JP Morgan's businesses every month. Instead of simply trusting his traders, Dimon put himself through a tutorial, so that he would understand the complex trades the bank was exposed to. And rather than run its mortgage machine at full throttle for as long as possible, Dimon reined in lending earlier than did others and warned his shareholders of looming trouble. Prudent as they were, his precautions were not enough. Over the last two years, JPMorgan Chase suffered an astonishing $51 billion in faulty mortgages, unpaid credit cards and other bad loans ...
