MALCOLM X: OXFORD UNION DEBATE (December 3, 1964)

The Complete Malcolm X on DVD: malcolmxfiles.blogspot.com "I read once, passingly, about a man named Shakespeare. I only read about him passingly, but I remember one thing he wrote that kind of moved me. He put it in the mouth of Hamlet, I think, it was, who said, "To be or not to be." He was in doubt about something. Whether it was nobler in the mind of man to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, moderation, or to take up arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them. And I go for that. If you take up arms, you'll end it, but if you sit around and wait for the one who's in power to make up his mind that he should end it, you'll be waiting a long time. And in my opinion, the young generation of whites, blacks, browns, whatever else there is, you're living at a time of extremism, a time of revolution, a time when there's got to be a change. People in power have misused it and now there has to be a change and a better world has to be built and the only way it's going to be built is with extreme methods. And I, for one, will join in with anyone, I don't care what color you are, as long as you want to change this miserable condition that exists on this earth. Thank you." -- December 3, 1964 malcolmxfiles.blogspot.com

Part II - The Mystery of Oxford University The Gardens(HQ)©

The University of Oxford (informally Oxford University, or simply Oxford), located in the city of Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, is the oldest university in the English-speaking world. It is also regarded as one of the world's leading academic institutions. The name is sometimes abbreviated as Oxon. in post-nominals (from the Latin Oxoniensis), although Oxf is sometimes used in official publications. The University has 38 independent colleges, and 6 permanent private halls.[ The university traces its roots back to at least the end of the 12th century, although the exact date of foundation remains unclear. After a dispute between students and townsfolk broke out in 1209, some of the academics at Oxford fled north-east to the town of Cambridge, where the University of Cambridge was founded. The two universities have since had a long history of competition with each other (see Oxbridge rivalry). The University of Oxford is a member of the Russell Group of research-led British universities, the Coimbra Group (a network of leading European universities), the League of European Research Universities, International Alliance of Research Universities and is also a core member of the Europaeum. Academically, Oxford is consistently ranked in the world's top 10 universities For more than a century, it has served as the home of the Rhodes Scholarship, which brings highly accomplished students from a number of countries to study at Oxford as postgraduates.
Buddhism and Science:Introductory Video, Oxford University

This seminal series of videos was recorded during a 2-day colloquium on Buddhism and Science at Oxford University involving leading scientists, philosophers, Buddhist scholars and Buddhist practitioners in deep debate on the perceived convergence of modern science (relativity theory, quantum mechanics, systems biology, cognitive psychology, clinical science) with some of the traditional ideas of Buddhism (anti-metaphysical stance, interdependence, emptiness, no-self). The colloquium was organised by Vesna Wallace (Numata Professor of Buddhist Studies at Oxford), Denis Noble (Emeritus Professor of Physiology) and Alan Wallace (Director of the Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies). In addition to the introduction, there are 11 30-minute recordings. The debates are lively and critical. The complete set of recordings is on www.voicesfromoxford.org Click on Events, then on Buddhism and Science.

Oxford University Christmas Science Lectures - Tripping The Light Fantastic

Light illuminates and gives life. It is beauty, colour and art. It also reveals, enlightens, and brings understanding. In a dazzling display, Jonathan Wood shows us the inspiration and fascination to be found in the use of light, from Harry Potter's invisible cloak to killing cancer cells. The future really is bright. With demos and audience participation, Jonathan will reveal (most if not all of) the following: Why the sky is blue. What's wrong with magenta. How second sight can be gained with artificial retinas. The secret behind Harry Potter's invisibility cloak. Why light may be the answer for killing cancer cells. The connection between dancing molecules and soaring spacecraft. How nature solved the problem of blue and green.

Nomura Varsity Rugby Match 2010: Cambridge University v Oxford University

One of the longest rivalries in rugby and sport will be settled, for this year at least, at Twickenham on Thursday December 9th 2010. With the line-ups for the Nomura Varsity match between Oxford and Cambridge Universities revealed, both sides go into the 129th match determined to deliver a top performance at the home of English rugby. The Dark Blues of Oxford University are seeking revenge in the Nomura Varsity Match after defeat (31-27) last year at the hands of the Light Blues of Cambridge. And there's added pressure on Oxford to avoid falling further behind Cambridge in the victory count, which currently stands at 61 to 53 in favour of the Light Blues. Cambridge will be led by fullback James Richards, already a two time Blue but is captaining the Cambridge team for the first time in a Varsity match. Richards brings southern hemisphere experience to the side as a former professional rugby player in South Africa. Included in his ranks is flanker Jason Kururangi -- who has proven rugby pedigree as the son of a New Zealand All Black. Oxford skipper, scrum half Nick Haydon, played at under-18s and 21s for Australia and also captained Australia students. His team also boasts an All Black heritage through fly half Charlie Marr, the great grandson of a former New Zealand international. But there's plenty of English talent on show too -- Oxford flanker Alex Cheesman has played for England 7s and is winning his third blue. Cambridge number 8 Ben Maidment has played for London ...

Michael Jackson - Oxford Speech 2001 (part 1/4) w/ full text

Heal the Kids, Part 1 of 4. Beautiful and important speech by Michael Jackson to Oxford Union (Oxford University, UK) in 2001. Full text included in video. Michael was a kind and gentle person, intelligent and funny, warm and loving. And a true humanitarian. Here he pleads for us all to reconnect with our families, to forgive, to end the violence in schools and heal the hearts of the children, including our own inner child. He talks about his own childhood and the difficulties he faced in the relationship with his father. I wish everyone would listen to this. We miss you, Michael. I love you forever. This version of the audio is at the correct speed/pitch instead of the too fast Mickey Mouse-sounding one. PS This was originally uploaded under my old account. Too bad all your beautiful comments were also erased when my entire account got shut down right after Michael's passing (due to other short clips, not this one), ahem. Please comment again =:-(
