P-47 Ace Francis "Gabby" Gabreski Interview

From Jane's WWII Fighters Francis "Gabby" Gabreski left the University of Notre Dame and his studies as a pre-med student in July 1940 to join the Army Air Corps. On 14 March 1941 he won his wings and commission at Maxwell Field. Gabreski's first artime assignment was with the 15th Fighter Group in Hawaii at Wheeler Field when the attack on Pearl Harbor took place. In October 1942, Gabreski was sent to England as a liaison officer to the Polish Air Force. After flying Spitfires on 20 combat missions, he was reassigned in February 1943 to the 61st Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Group, flying a P-47 out of Boxted, England. Gabreski's initial victories came slowly. It wasn't until 26 November 1943 that he became an Ace. By the middle of July 1944, however, he was the leading USAAF Ace in the European Theater, with 28 victories. On July 20, 1944, Lt. Col. Gabreski led a raid on a German airfield near Koblenz. This mission was supposed to be Gabby's last as he was being rotated to the US after more than 300 combat hours and 28 aerial victories. As luck would have it, however, his prop struck the ground on a low-level attack and he was forced to make a belly-landing in a nearby wheat field. He was captred after twe days and spent the rest of the war as a POW in Stalag Luft I. After a one-year break in service, working for Douglas Aircraft Corporation, Gabreski was recalled to active duty, and assigned to the 4th Fighter-interceptor Group flying the F-86 Sabrejet in Korea On 8 ...

A2A Simulations Wings of Power 3 P-47 "Razorback"

Promotional video of the A2A Simulations Wings of Power 3 P-47 "Razorback." Includes Accusim. www.a2asimulations.com http Affectionately known as The Jug, the P-47 Thunderbolt is as big as the American Spirit and holds a unique honor in the ranks of World War II fighters. Ironically the original concept was born in Russia and can be seen by its rugged and hearty design. Like a gentle giant, the P-47 handles with grace but packs an enormous punch. This plane was much heavier and bulkier than other fighter planes of its day, outweighing aircraft like the Fw 190 by several thousand pounds. Equipped with a large, powerful radial engine, it looked as tough as it was. However, when British pilots first saw the P-47, it was often mocked due to its size. The light, maneuverable Spitfires could get on a P-47s tail with ease in test trials. What they didnt know at that time was the P-47 was different type of fighter and the battles were to be fought at higher altitude where the air is thin, using high-energy tactics. Both the British and the Germans soon found out, in the right hands, the P-47 was lethal.

P-47 Thunderbolts @ TN Museum of Aviation 04/18/09

Combo video of the Republic P-47 Thunderbolts Wicked Wabbit and Hun Hunter XVI taken during Tennessee Museum of Aviation's Warbird Tribute, 04/18/2009. This was the 2nd of 3 demos these put on that day. I have no video from the 3rd, I used it for pictures only. I also don't know what the deal was with the 3 Choppers, I just didn't have time to get the camera ready for pictures so I just recorded them in the video.

P-47 Thunderbolt "No Guts No Glory" at Chino, California

Video is of the former UK-based Republic P-47 "No Guts No Glory" at the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Planes of Fame Museum at Chino, California in Jan., 2007. This aircraft had JUST been sold to a new USA owner by Provenance Fighter Sales. This was a very nice and generous gesture flying "No Guts" for a public flight display. This is typical of the Southern California warbird scene. We locals are very lucky here in SoCal USA! If you will notice, the idle of the P&W R-2800 engine sounds a little irregular. At the beginning of the startup, it was discovered that the engine had an "oil lock." That means that excess quantities of engine oil had seeped into the lower cylinders. The engine required "pulling through" by the ground crew, ie manually rotating the prop to clear some of the trapped oil in the cylinders. I think some of the spark plugs were still fouled during the taxi sequence, resulting in the irregular idle. Steve Hinton obviously cleared the fouling during engine run-up just prior to takeoff.

Four P-47 Thunderbolts: ROLLING AMERICAN THUNDER !!

This is a video of four P-47 Thunderbolts taxiing at the 2005 Planes of Fame Airshow at Chino, California. Now this is what I call ROLLING AMERICAN THUNDER! This airshow featured FIVE Thunderbolts taking to the air. The fifth Thunderbolt (the Planes of Fame's own P-47G) is visible parked on the left at the end of the video. Steve Hinton flew the P-47G in an aerobatic display and also filled in between the other flying sequences, so this P-47 is not shown taxiing in the video. Actually, SEVEN flyable Thunderbolts were present at Chino that day. The sixth and seventh Jugs were the Yanks Air Museum's (also based at Chino) YP-47M and P-47D. However, the Yank's P-47s did not fly. This was one of the very first videos I took with my first video camera, a tiny Sony, so please take it easy on me :). The flying sequences didn't turn out so well so I didn't include them but I felt that the sight of these four monsters taxiing should be presented for others to enjoy! This was truly a sight to behold. If you'd like, please also check out my other YouTube warbird videos. Thanks! - octane130 -

Classic "Cox" RC electric Warbirds combat. P-47 vs Me-109 in spectacular Midair Collision.

Jeff and I have been having combat with these Old Classic Warbirds (that used to be manufactured by Cox Models) since last winter. Having just posted my Cox GAS Ukie video, I wanted to show you the Classic Electric RC Warbirds now being offered by Gravity Hobby for only $17.99, including motor, 2 props charging jack, plug, and switch. Just add a micro Rx and 2 micro servos, LiPo, and fly. I like the Corsair the best. They can really fly fast with the stock motor. I have a Stormlauncher Motor in the ME-109 and stock in the P-47. In my newest Corsair, I am installing the SL motor too, as it is quite fast. The Corsair has a very stable flight due to it's wing folds, plus keeps the nose off the ground when landing. My favorite. Note~ In January 1996, a leading model toy rocket manufacturer, Estes Industries, purchased Cox Hobbies, Incorporated, and relocated operations from Southern California to the Estes facility in Penrose, Colorado. This signaled a major change in marketing direction for the new company, now known as Cox Models. A great many new products including these Classic Warbirds were aimed towards a mass market and they were sold in large chain stores and discount stores. To learn more about Cox, just check my Cox U-Control video description box. If your looking for a small plane for a heck of a good price or any size LiPo battery, check out www.gravityhobby.com I hope you enjoyed this bit of combat fun. Thanks for watching and subscribing. Affectionately dubbed; The Jug, Republic's P-47D Thunderbolt was a swift, multi-role fighter that was as much of a menace to ground targets as it was enemy aircraft. ParkZone has brought The Jug to life with this great flying scale recreation that comes out of the box with details like a simulated radial engine, molded panel lines and a realistic 404th Fighter Group paint scheme. It's even set up to let you easily add the option of functional flaps and retractable landing gear. And you can bet it flies every bit as good as it looks. The 15-size brushless motor and E-flite 30A Pro brushless ESC that are installed for you will provide more than enough power for high-speed strafing runs and sport aerobatics.
