On January 17, Ambassador Richard G. Olson and Paktika Provincial Governor Samim Officially opened Paktika's Lincoln Learning Center. Located in Sharana, the center will be used by the people of Paktika as a library as well as a place to access internet. The center, which joins 15 others across Afghanistan, is a symbol of the enduring partnership between the American people and the people of Afghanistan. On the same visit, Ambassador Olson participated in a ceremony which handed over a solid waste management program from United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to the Sharana Municipality, a reflection of the Municipality's increased ability to bring basic services to its constituents.

Dramatic new video gives a rare, up-close view of an American military attack chopper the AH-64 apache apparently losing control and crashing hard at a remote, mountainous outpost in Afghanistan. The video, which appeared online recently, shows an Apache helicopter coming into view before swooping down low over the coalition outpost. The person shooting the video, who has not been identified, shouts in apparent fear as the helicopter narrowly misses a building and then chuckles in relief after it pulls back up. But after coming back around, the chopper drops down low again and slams its belly onto the snowy ground just feet from the camera. The helicopter skids towards another group of people, but comes off the ground briefly before crashing again in the distance. A spokesperson for the US-led International Security Assistance Force mentioned the video was taken Feb. 6 in the Paktika province in Afghanistan. Remarkably, no one on the ground was injured and the aircrew survived, the spokesperson said. There was no enemy activity in the area and Army is currently investigating the incident, he said. While the cause of the crash is unknown, former Marine Corps pilot said it appears the pilot was performing dangerous low-level maneuvers for spectators and then lost control. It said that violence in Afghanistan has forced more than 2.5 million people to take shelter abroad while lakhs of other were displaced inside Afghanistan. The violence has ruined each and every thing in Afghanistan and economy is nonexistent. All the efforts for economic revival face failure due to this violence. It deplored and condemned the killing of seven UN employees by armed assailants in Dara-e-Sabaz of Badghis province on August 5. These people were employees of a UN organization who are protecting the people of Afghanistan against nearly 70000 land mines and 7.5 million unexploded bombs scattered in the entire Afghanistan. These people were attacked at a time when they were returning from an area where they were doing their duties of creating awareness among the people about the danger of these land mines and protective measures against it. The elements responsible for this cowardice act could not be identified, the broadcast said. Those ...
