Computed tomography (CT) methods were applied to a problematic fossil spider (Arachnida: Araneae) from the historical Berendt collection of Eocene (ca. 44--49 Ma) Baltic amber. Original specimens of Ocypete crassipes Koch & Berendt, 1854 are in dark, oxidised amber and the published descriptions lack detail. Despite this, they were subsequently assigned to the living Pantropical genus Heteropoda Latreille, 1804; and are ostensibly the oldest records of huntsman spiders (Sparassidae) in general. Given their large size, and presumptive ability to free themselves more easily from resin, it would be surprising to find a sparassid in amber and traditional (optical) methods of study would likely have left O. crassipes as an equivocal record -- probably a nomen dubium. However phase contrast enhanced X-ray CT revealed exquisite morphological detail and thus 'saved' this historical name by revealing characters which confirm that it's a bone fide member both of Sparassidae and the subfamily Eusparassinae. We demonstrate here that CT studies facilitate taxonomic equivalence even between recent spiders and unpromising fossils described in older monographs. In our case, fine structural details such as eye arrangement, cheliceral dentition, and leg characters like a trilobaite membrane, spination and claws, allow a precise referral of this fossil to an extant genus as Eusparassus crassipes. The photographers ongoing challenge is to encapsulate lifes experiences in a rectangular, twodimensional form. In reality, of course, we perceive the visual world as an endlessly unfolding synthesis of images, in which pieces come together and then disperse as our eyes dart around and we move through time and space. This long photograph of Kitengela Road here captures the hustle and bustle of Nairobi's Langata neighbourhood in a naturalistic, unposed way, giving the viewer the illusion of walking down the road. Steve Bloom started at the Hotel Hilton at the far end on the right, and moved along to the Jeddy Hair Salon, taking a photograph every four paces. The resulting images were painstakingly stitched together. As the eye moves along the photograph, the viewpoint changes continually, as if the viewer is physically moving down the road. Some of the traders, such as the knife sharpener, are seen repeatedly, going about their business in different parts of the road at different times. This image opposes the 'decisive moment' approach to photography, and is more cinematic in its structure. @conradev has found a new way to enable a hidden iOS Camera feature that will allow you to shoot panoramic photos. This feature is native, added by Apple, and probably in testing stages for now. Although you will need a Jailbroken device to enable it, it's fairly simple. 1. Open up iFile 2. Go to the /var/mobile/library/preferences Directory 3. Find .com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist 4. Tap on the .plist(not the blue arrow) and tap Property List Viewer 5. Press the + button to add an item. Name the item "EnableFirebreak" and the type "Boolean" and hit create. 6. Turn EnableFirebreak to ON and press DONE 7. Open up your camera, tap "options" and there you go, Panorama. And that's it! You now have the Hidden camera feature, Panorama. It doesn't work too well but it is native and will hopefully be released in a later update.
