Lucien, (french noble) is invited by Inigo (head of the gypsys) for diner. Both are in love with Paquita (a young gypsy), and Inigo very jalous wants to kill Lucien after diner, at midnight. Paquita, in love with Lucien tries to tell him what is really going on during the diner. Inigo asks her to dance to entertain his guest. 6/6 of Yuri Burlaka's reconstruction of the Grand Pas classique from "Paquita" for the Bolshoi Ballet. November 17, 2008. Moscow, Russia. Thanks to my piano reduction of this music & my obsession with balletic archaeology, I have identified the origins of all of these beloved pieces - 1. Variation danced by Svetlana Zakharova . Music by Ludwig Minkus (1881). Variation for Ekaterina Vazem. This is the bonafied original variation for the lead ballerina of the pas. 2. Variation danced by Adrei Uvarov. Music by Riccardo Drigo (1902). This is the male variation written by Drigo for the Ballet Master Achille Coppini's 1902 staging of the ballet "La Source" for the Imperial Ballet. The choreography is by Leonid Lavrovsky. 3. Coda générale (the coda has been restored both choreographically & musically, but I'm pretty sure that Burlaka added in the passages for the children & the danseur's tours à la seconde) --ENJOY!!

3/6 of Yuri Burlaka's staging of the Mazurka des enfants, Grand Pas classique & Pas de trois from "Paquita" for the Bolshoi Ballet. November 17, 2008. Moscow, Russia. Set design by Alyona Pikalova, costumes by Yelena Zaitseva. Performed by Yelena Andrienko, Anastasia Goryacheva & Denis Medvedev. Here, the famous pas de trois has been restored musically to its original form, & although the Bolshoi utilized the choreographic notation of the Sergeyev Collection for this revival I'm not sure how much they followed it for the staging of the pas de trois, though it seems that it is very much authentic. For almost a century, this pas de trois has been known in the west as the "Minkus pas de trois". Thanks to my piano reduction of the complete "Paquita" Grand pas classique, I've learned that the majority of this music is not by Minkus at all, but by Eduard Deldevez, the composer of the score for the original full-length "Paquita" of 1846, with a male variation by Adolphe Adam. Perhaps a more appropriate title is the "Deldevez-Minkus-Adam Pas de trois"! Diana Vishneva is without question one of todays most important contemporary( while being classical) ballerinas of today. Allow me to point out that while she does not does not have those wonderful leg lines that might seem to become the norm rather then the exception. What does set her apart from the bunch is her innate sense of individuality that she soaks into every role. What draws me to her its her originality that many ballerinas try to do but somehow fail where diana vishneva shines
