Pretzel Logic by Donald Fagen w/ Michael McDonald Steely Dan

The old Steely Dan tune, this time done by Don as part of his Rock and Soul Review, with vocals by Michael McDonald. Stirring guitar by Drew Zingg. Headliners for this vid: Donald Fagen, vocal and piano; Jeff Young, piano; Michael McDonald, vocal and piano. WTC June visit 2001

On June 10, 2001, we were in New York City on business. Later in the afternoon we went to Wall Street, intent on taking the NY Stock Exchange tour. But we got there too late to get tickets, so instead we decided to go to the top of the World Trade Center, tower 2. It was a pretty quiet day, but it was also gorgeous, as can be seen from the video. I let it drag on until tower 1 comes into view. These views are no longer available, especially looking uptown, beyond the Empire State Building, and beyond. At the time it was taken for granted, but only 3 months later they were gone. I wish I had filmed the personnel manning the building, because to this day I wonder how they fared.
Grape Arbor

This was the one that was almost taken down by the Maine tree fall. These are Concord grapes, and the second year of planting. Looks like a bumper crop. Joyce and maggie are dead-heading the thousands of daylillies she has planted in our thimble plot.
Camogli

Wait ten seconds till my camera comes around to horizontal. The beach and the sounds from the nearby church. Camogli is a beach town and fishing port SE from Genoa, on the Italian riviera, on the way to Cinque Terra. This was shot with a Panasonic still digital camera, the DMC FX01. I set it to shoot in video mode, but forgot and aimed it like I was going to take a still image (which I could edit later). OK, nuff splainin.
More Tainan 1971

The second part of the Super 8 movie my father-in-law shot in Taiwan in 1971. It starts out in Kaohsiung, the major southern port of the island. That's Joyce in the yellow top. Afterwards we visit the twin pagodas at Tsoying Lake. Then we are back in Tainan City, visiting the Confucious Temple, the oldest in Taiwan. We also visit the Red-Haired Tower, the old Dutch Fort Provintia (I can't think of the Chinese name). Then I climbed to the top of what was the tallest building in the city, an eight-story pool hall, overlooking the harbor. Even though I panned the camera way too fast, you can get an idea of what downtown Tainan looked like back then. Back on the ground, you can see part of the shrimp fleet, shared with the port of An Ping.
maggie does agility. Wire Haired Fox Terrier.

This is from the archives. July 11, 1999, she wasn't even two years old. Joyce had been working her hard at obedience, and wanted this really physical doggie to attempt agility trials. Joyce knew this was risky biz, and this vid is a record of the results. In the end, it was seen mags needed her space, and that meant being not distracted by other dogs. Focus may be the lacking quality, but her energy and impromptu personality is what endears her to us. Maggie is endless fun, and it appears her TouTube audience appreciates this as well.
Basia She Deserves It

ABC morning show, 1993. Cut off for no apparent reason, sorry. Still, amusing, Danny White was sick, could not make it, but Peter White was there, as was long-time vocalist Dee Johnson, the Maltese twins Annick and Veronique Clarrise, trumpeter Kevin Robinson, sax Chris Demargary, trombone et al Fayazz Virji, bass Randy Hope Taylor, drums Richard Bailey, percussion Karl Vanden Bossche. (please forgive misspellings!) Wonderful treat, but would really love some full-length vids of Basia on Broadway, OK???!! Where are they?
Tainan Taiwan 1971

This footage shot by father-in-law Ted Staberow, who with wife Elayne came to visit Joyce and me, in June 1971. I was stationed in Tainan while with the USAF, and we lived at #2 Lane 181 Ta Tung Lu. The house behind the red gate was our home. Ted took his Super 8 movie camera and stood out on the street to shoot what he saw, which was traffic heading south towards Kaohsiung, and north up to Tainan city center and beyond. Sorry, there is no sound. He also was very attentive to any female passerbys. A good glimpse of this really excellent city back then, though I hear this stretch of Ta Tung Lu is gone, due to an intersection with a new north/south expressway. Back in 1971 this was the north south expressway. Somewhere along here was the exploding whale, I think, a couple of years ago, but don't quite know.
yellow jackets

Today they all hatched from their nests at the same time at this dumpster at a construction site in Maine. Hundreds of them, all hatching, and then tending to the rest about to be hatched. Harmless creatures, actually, unless you sit on a nest. They will buzz you endlessly, but won't strike. Don't let one get in your tuna sandwich, tho. Not like ground hornets, which are vicious.
Bumble Bee

I really love my new little camera, the Panasonic DMC FX01. It's a still camera, 6 MP, with a 28mm (35mm equivalent) lens. It's video mode is really nice on my computer, but loses quite a bit for youtube purposes. Still, this should be a good demo of its capabilities in that department. This was shot this afternoon in Joyce's flower garden. The wide-angle capability allowed me to follw the flight of the bumble bee with no trouble.
