Nokia N9 Review

A review of the Nokia N9 MeeGo smartphone. Check out our full review at: www.mobiletechreview.com The phone has an elegant and fresh OS and an understated design that exudes quality and comfort. It has a 3.9" Gorilla Glass AMOLED capacitive display with 854 x 480 res., a 1GHz CPU, 16 gigs of internal storage and a sealed 1450 mAh battery. It's a GSM unlocked pentaband phone with 3G HSPA+ 14.4 on AT&T, T-Mobile and overseas bands. Unfortunately, Nokia won't be making lots of these as this is the first MeeGo Harmattan smartphone.

Nokia E7 Symbian 3 smartphone with Clear Black display

We unbox the new Nokia E7 Symbian^3 smartphone with Clear Black Display technology and penta-band 3G support. The E7 starts off with a 4-inch AMOLED display for bright, crisp color and uses the Nokia Clear Black Display technology to make dark colors nice and deep. It also has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and can work on any 3G network in the world, thanks to penta-band 3G support (850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz). The 8-megapixel camera takes great low-light photos and is the best in its class.

Hands-on Nokia E7 Symbian^3 smartphone

The Nokia E7 Symbian^3 smartphone was announced at Nokia World 2010 London and we get some hands-on time. The E7 features a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen with ClearBlack AMOLED technology. It has a penta-band 3G radio (850/900/1700/1900/2100Mhz), WiFi (B/G/N), GPS and Bluetooth 3.0. It also has HDMI out. Too bad the camera is only 8-megapixel and no Carl Zeiss optics.

Nokia Lumia 800 hardware overview

Elop has gone on record claiming that the Lumia 800 is a "refinement" of the N9. That's not a good use of English and we can't let it slide, because every hardware difference between the two devices leaves the Lumia 800 worse off. There's no globetrotting pentaband 3G, which means no AWS support for T-Mo USA's network. The front-facing camera and notification LED have evaporated. The screen is slightly smaller due to the intrusion of the Windows Phone buttons. There's only 512MB of RAM instead of 1GB. Onboard storage maxes out at 16GB rather than 64GB with the N9. NFC is also inexplicably lacking, so the phone can't pair up with Nokia accessories and it probably won't be able to keep up future innovations that Nokia says its working on for Windows Phone 8 (aka Apollo). On the other hand, many of the best features of the N9 have made it through. The machined polycarbonate shell radiates precisely the same industrial style, while simultaneously giggling in the face of scratches. The convex Gorilla Glass screen flaunts some of the best workmanship we've ever seen on a mobile device and it fits so perfectly that barely a speck of dust can get caught in its frame. The proximity and light sensors are neatly hidden behind the glass, leaving the front face of the phone almost entirely undisturbed, except for the earpiece, Nokia logo and Windows Phone symbols. The left side of the device is a blank expanse, while the volume rocker, power / lock button and camera button are all on ...

Nokia N8 hands on

Today I finally got a chance to play with the Nokia N8. I got to use prototype hardware (still labeled C0) running early software (not even pre-release). In short, I'm definitely impressed. But I'm still concerned that the N8 will not be able to compete with iOS and Android devices when it's launched later this summer. Read on for my thoughts... The hardware Let's get one thing out of the way: the hardware is fantastic. There's absolutely no doubt that Nokia knows how to build top-spec phones, and when it wants to, top-quality hardware. The N8, even in prototype form, showcases the best fit, finish, and materials of any Nseries device to date. The device is slim and light yet solid. The body and most buttons/covers are made of machined and anodized aluminum -- only the plastic endcaps look and feel out of place. The glass capacitive OLED display is beautiful and responsive. The features are impressive -- 12 MP HD camera, penta-band 3G (including AWS for T-Mobile USA), WiFi b/g/n, HDMI output, USB On-The-Go! The only N8 available for me to handle was the green one, which is not a particularly flattering color for this phone. The blue version I saw looked more attractive. The software Unfortunately, my time with the software was pretty limited, but what I saw surprised me by being fast and slick. It's clear that the user interface makes extensive use of hardware acceleration and that the user experience is a significant improvement over S60v5. But will Symbian^3 be able to ...

Hands-On: Samsung Galaxy Nexus HSPA+

Wow... The Galaxy Nexus. It's finally here, in our eager little hands, and it's delicious -- just like Ice Cream Sandwich, in fact. Our review unit is the same unlocked HSPA+ version we briefly played with in Hong Kong and is running Android 4.0.1. We've only spent about a day with Google's newest superphone and we're already hard at work on a full review, but we wanted to share some raw, immediate, first impressions The first thing we noticed upon opening the generic white packaging is that this latest Nexus is a large phone, with a footprint similar to the HTC Titan. It's also pleasantly light and thin, and the bezel is small thanks to the lack of hardware buttons. Build quality is typical Samsung -- durable if not somewhat plasticky. The Nexus inherits design cues from its various Galaxy S II cousins, including the textured battery cover (which is a little difficult to snap back on), but sheds the usual black for a gunmetal shade of gray. We're happy to confirm that the Galaxy Nexus is indeed the first Android device with a pentaband HSPA+ radio -- we've successfully tested both T-Mobile USA and AT&T SIMs with our handset. Hurray! Initial setup was quick and painless. We logged in with our Google ID and password, and to our surprise, the Nexus started downloading and installing all of our purchased apps (in addition to syncing our email, calendar and contacts). It also asked if we wanted to use Google+ on that account. As expected, Samsung isn't taking any prisoners ...

Nokia N8: AMAZING Stereo Audio Recording Quality!!!!

The Nokia N8 records audio in Stereo via dual microphones. This video demonstratees the audio quality that is made possible with the Nokia N8. If you have a subwoofer or sound system connected to your PC or device, turn up the volume to hear the clarity of each instrument. From Allaboutsymbian: Review: Nokia N8: part 6 - Cutting edge technology (USB on the go, HDMI, Pentaband, etc.) "Digital microphones Debuted on the N86 8MP was a MEMS (MicroElectrical-Mechanical System) microphone (see here for more on MEMS), effectively a microphone on a chip - audio in on its flat side and amplified CD-quality digital sound out directly into Symbian's audio modules. The results were stunning and the same MEMS chip has been used on the N8, as shown below. Audio is again stellar - I used the term CD-quality above, by which I mean that the difference between conventional smartphone captured audio and that on the N8 is analagous to the difference between going from cassette tape to CD - the jump is very noticeable and, once used for real projects, it's hard to go back and accept anything less." Copyright (©) All About Symbian 2000-2010 Also, take note of the industry leading Digital Zoom (Only on the Nokia N8) around the 1:30 mark.

Painting a "Worm chop".

No commentary on this one folks, just some background music. This is a five minute video which just demonstrates the process of creating the image submitted in the contest. All drawn and Image Editing Software work. No external sources used and the contest image wasn't used when creating this image, the image is inspired by the drawing thread and the source. I took one look at the source image at the start and drew as much of it as I could remember upto a point and then began doing the canvas effect. The time difference between creating the Worm drawn by hand with a pen tab and the other elements which used more IES techniques is fairly noticable.

Nokia N9 Hands-on, Full Review & Specifications (Hardware)

Love at first sight -- this is possibly the most beautiful phone ever made. It's not our first hardware love affair (we're looking at you, iPhone 4S), nor likely our last, but the N9 is in a class of its own in terms of design. You've never seen anything like it, and if you think it's attractive in pictures, wait until you see it in person -- it's completely and utterly irresistible. It manages to be elegant by virtue of its minimalism yet remains unmistakably Nokia. The impeccable proportions belie the handset's 12.1mm (0.48-inch) thickness thanks to tapered ends reminiscent of its more ornate predecessor, the N8. It all starts with a colored-through polycarbonate monolith, which is machined (not cast) to form the N9's unibody. The finish looks matte and feels similar to anodized aluminum, but is significantly more durable. Our review unit came in black but cyan and magenta versions are also available. The back is slightly convex and features an oval chrome-finished (and scratch-prone) pod that's flush with the body and houses the slightly recessed eight megapixel autofocus camera. A dual-LED flash is offset to the left of the lens. The front is almost all screen with no buttons, and just a tiny slit for the earpiece on top. Curved Gorilla glass flows into the bezel like liquid spilling onto a flat surface. The 3.9-inch FWVGA (854x480) ClearBlack AMOLED display is phenomenal, rivaling Samsung's Super AMOLED Plus -- text and graphics just appear to float on the panel ...

Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ Hardware Review & Specifications

Each year, several dozen smartphones land on our collective desks. They come in different shapes and sizes, boast different features and sell at different price points. We take each of them for a spin and review most of them, but only a handful really stand out. This is especially true with Android handsets, where incremental updates appear to be the modus operandi. Every now and then a device comes along that we really look forward to getting our hands on. Google's line of Nexus smartphones falls into this category, setting the new standard for Android each year. There's absolutely no doubt that the Galaxy Nexus is a big phone. Sure, it's not Galaxy Note large, but it's a smidgen taller (and narrower) than the HTC Titan. As such it dwarfs its predecessor, the Nexus S. While this could be an issue for some folks, we didn't have any trouble fitting the handset in our pockets. Despite its size, the Galaxy Nexus manages to be quite thin (8.94mm / 0.35in) and light (135g / 4.76oz). As a result, it feels wonderful in hand. Design-wise, the Galaxy Nexus looks like what we imagine would happen if we stacked a Nexus S and a Galaxy S II and flattened them with a rolling pin.

T-Mobile G2x Hands-On

T-Mobile G2x Hands-On by Aaron It's the Optimus 2X, but with T-Mobile branding! Aaron takes a first look at the T-Mobile G2x, the carrier's first dual-core smartphone and one of the first to support T-Mobile's new 42Mbps HSPA+ technology. Inside, it offers a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 4-inch display, 8-megapixel rear camera, a camera on the front for video calling, and Android 2.2. It comes preloaded with quite a few games and the usual T-Mobile applications like My Device, Help, and Wi-Fi Calling. It's a powerhouse of a phone, and will be a solid competitor to other dual-core devices like the Motorola DROID Bionic and Atrix 4G. Aaron gets up close and personal in this hands-on video. ‪Facebook: www.facebook.com ‬ Twitter: www.twitter.com Forums: forums.phonedog.com Win Free Phones: instantwin.phonedog.com
