I also added a video of Ian making his hand pressing in cement on the Walk of Fame in Gdansk... and When A Blind Man Cries also performed in Gdansk last year with... The Polish Baltic Frédéric Chopin Philharmonic. Now why 'Kujawiak Oberek' you may ask. It is a regional folk dance Ian admittedly learned to dance for the purposes of this movie. He was in Klobka, an open-air museum I visited a couple of times myself and reports say Ian was a fantastic student and quickly mastered this dance. The Land of My Mother -- Polish-American documentary movie directed by Romuald Gantkowski with absolutely amazing pictures of Poland which no longer exists. The movie showing scenes in colour of pre-war Poland, and appealing for solidarity with its oppressed citizens. It is narrated by Eve Curie, daughter of the Polish scientist Marie Skłodowska-Curie and produced by The Polish Information Center in New York in 1941. „Land of My Mother" was produced in New York during World War II using footage from „Malownicza Polska", the only colour film, so far as is known, ever produced in pre-war Poland. There is a considerable mystery surrounding both the original Polish film and the later English language version. One story is that „Malownicza Polska" was filmed by Hollywood magnate Louis B. Mayer in the 1930s as a birthday present for his friend Marie Curie-Skłodowska. Another is that it was produced by Polish filmmakers for showing at the 1938 New York World's fair. And oddly enough, major Polish institutes and libraries in the United States and England were completely unaware of either film's existence. It was the director of the film archives in Warsaw who finally identified the scenes from „Malownicza Polska". It had long been assumed that all copies were lost during the war. This is a photostory of my visit to The Auschwitz in Oswiecim, Poland in 2005. This was one of the main concentration camps used by Hitler for purpose of work camps, slavery, and the eventual attempted and failed extermination of the Jewish race, homosexuals, and people with disabilities. Among these millions of victims were several other beautiful souls from diverse backgrounds that gave or had their lives stolen in the events of WWII. The Auschwitz-Birkenau is probably the most well-known of all the concentration camps. A short bus ride from Krakow on a snowy,winter's morning in December 2004. A few of the older pictures are taken from various sources to show comparisons between "then" and "now." All obviously "new or current" photos were taken by myself. This may be graphic for some, PG-13 rating due to WWII photos of the atrocities that took place here. Some forty teams of firefighters were working to put out a blaze in northeastern Poland after 2 cargo trains collided. Officials in the town of Bialystok said one train carrying tanks of oil was stopped on the tracks as it was hit from behind by another cargo train. 17 of the 33 oil tanks that the train was carrying caught fire.
