In this video I introduce the planche lean and pseudo planche push up. These two exercises are the key to building strength and power with your bodyweight, using no external devices. The basics: Once you can do more than 10 reps of an exercise you are building almost no strength. Instead, you are developing endurance. To continue building strength the resistance must be increased, not the number of repetitions or time under tension. There are three methods to do this. 1) Adding weight to your body. Books in a bookbag, weight plates on the back. your little sister on your back, etc. 2) Elastic bands. By running them across your back and doing the push up you can increase the difficulty. This is similar to adding weight, but is easier to do by yourself. Lifeline.com has a great device, the Power Push-up, that is made specifically for this purpose. 3) DECREASING the leverage of the exercise. This is the method of increasing resistance used in the pseudo planche push up and planche lean, as well as most gymnastic progressions. This, in addition to requiring no external weight or device, has the added benefit of strengthening tendons and ligaments to levels one can not achieve with weights or bands.
