She's also the head soccer coach at BYU Hawaii. We did all the filming on the island of Oahu, in Hawaii. On a technical side, it was all shot on the Canon 5D Mark II, and for two special shots we did those with the GoPro HD. I wanted to try and give people the "perspective" of the soccer ball, so what we did was we duck taped a GoPro HD camera to the soccer ball. I then hid behind a tree so I wasn't in the shot, and then Carolyn, the soccer girl in the video kicked the ball up as high as she could, that's how we got that shot. As far as lenses go, the only lens I used was a Canon 16-35mm 2.8 L Series lens. For the underwater shots with the ocean, I used a SPL housing specifically made for a Canon 5D Mark II. I usually film all my movies at 24fps, however with this one, I wanted to try something new/experiment with. So I filmed all the shots with Carolyn at 30fps. I then conformed them with cinematools to 24fps. By doing this it slowed down the clips just a little bit, so they are barely played in slowmotion. Finally figured out a way to properly play 60 FPS video as a silky smooth slow motion video. Shooting video @ 60 FPS and slowing it down by 50% in iMovie only yields a choppy, slow motion video because iMovie automatically converts 60 FPS to 30 FPS and than slowing it by 50% drops every other frame. Results are poor. However, using JES Deinterlacer, the frame rate is truly slowed without dropping any frames. A 60 FPS one minute video can be converted into a 30 FPS two minute video. No frames dropped. The video in the sample is what normally would be a boring few minutes from a camera flying around on a homemade R/C plane, However, I find it slowed to 24 FPS to be fascinating!

It was an absolute joy filming, editing and directing this music video for two artists (Tim Bowness and Peter Chilvers) who I have enjoyed and respected for so many years. My good friend Peter Chilvers (whom I met while living in Cambridgeshire) asked if I would be interested in producing a music video for his and Tim's new project, Slow Electric. It is probably one of the easiest decisions I've made. Peter played me the track at a meet up in Cambridge, and I was immediately inspired by some images/ideas for it. Upon first listen, it was a very haunting track, which evoked a timeless melancholy, touching on themes of death and romance while retaining a distinctly English feel. A lovely song which certainly touched a primordial nerve. The band were fantastic to work with. I suggested the idea of some slow moving shots travelling up behind people stood still, but never revealing their faces. Peter liked this and so it went from there. It was shot entirely with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera at 1080p 24fps (24 frames per second), and this music video was it's first proper project. I filmed it over four weekends in Norfolk, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. Thankfully my wife, some close friends and relatives were willing to lend their "souls" to the video. Once happy with the rushes, I spent just over a week sifting and then grading the footage. I then worked on editing and tweaking the final cut over the following three evenings. My new camera! Canon Powershot S100. I upgrade from the Canon s90 and I love it. It now has optical zoom while recording videos also. The lighting is amazing and the zoom have drastically improved. There is a dedicated record button now too. I love this camera so much I am so excited. I am going to record everything I see. Oh yes the pictures comes out very nice too. Great Image Quality. this short was a test run to check out the capabilities of mk2. and to my big surprise, the raw footage is absolutely stunning and i'll shoot future shorts with this camera rather than SONY EX3. sound is temp. shot over several hours with various zeiss/canon lenses. cut with FCP, color adjusted with MAGIC BULLET LOOKS. converted to 24p with cinema tools and compressor. the budget for this project was 200 bucks. sorry, no subtitle yet. but the premise is about a guy who's waiting for his girlfriend to come down from work so they can go have a picnic. but when he's forced to wait longer than expected, he plays a prank on her by telling her to get into a "friend's car" parked outside the building. based on a real prank pulled by a colleague.

Ok this is just for people curious about the HD video feature of the Canon Rebel T2i (550D). Yes it is boring. The first clip is what you can expect if you take your Canon out of the box and start shooting 1080P video with the 24 frames per second option. The other clips are the same setup, but with color and other effects added later. All clips were shot handheld. This was with the 18-55mm IS kit lens that came with the camera. It's not a bad lens for a kit lens in my opinion. I'm still trying to work out how to get the video quality to match the quality of some other vids I've seen on Youtube. I've got the good 50mm F1.4 USM lens that everyone seems to use. Biggest drawbacks so far with this camera for video are: 1. Autofocus is useless during recording. You can use it, but once you try it, you won't ever do it again. 2. The ergonomics for video recording are not very good. Hard to keep the cam steady AND adjust focus during filming. Much better for scenes where a fixed focus can be used. 3. Editing the .mov files it creates is a MAJOR pain in the ass for PC and Sony Vegas users. Personally I have to transcode all my original .mov files before I can properly use them in Vegas. Anyway, I love this camera. It's fantastic. Music by Kevin MacLeod.

In this clip I wanted to test the zooming capabilities of the Canon PowerShot S95 camera by filming some traffic along the highway. The camera is capturing 24 frames per second in 720p HD. I tested standard zoom and at some points I went up to 12x digital zoom. You notice a bit of resolution loss and pixelation but all in all the motion is smooth.
