3 May 2011 Returning home after a trip to the capital of Czech Republic. We departed Prague from runway 06 in beautiful weather around 8 pm. You can see a Yangtze River Express Boeing 747-400 Freighter taxiing for take off just after us. Afterwards we headed north-east on Wroclaw and on to Warsaw. The plane was a Embraer ERJ-170-100LR 170LR. During the flight we had just a moment of turbulences on approach to Frederic Chopin airport. After departing in a beautiful weather we landed in a weather that you would never think of in May, it was snowing! In heavy clouds we made an ILS approach for landing on runway 33. While Russia's baking in the heat, Central Europe is swimming in floods. Heavy rains have caused rivers to burst their banks, and left at least 10 people dead in the last few days. The flooding's struck an area near the borders of Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic. Thousands have had to be evacuated from the worst affected areas. Helicopters are plucking people to safety from the roofs of their homes. Meanwhile, a state of emergency has been declared in some parts of Serbia after hailstorms, strong winds and heavy rain hit the country. Today we are doing some fun and cool scientific experiment! We are melting styrofoam cups and styrofoam with Pure Acetone which is Polish Remover. We start of by just melting styrofoam, then move into cup tower, and finally melting 20 styrofoam cups!!! Just make sure to do it outside or some area because the acetone smells. Maybe have a fan on, also wear gloves. I wouldn't recommend touching that stuff, if you do just quickly wash your hands. Just be careful, you are messing with chemicals. Supplies Needed: - Bowl - Styrofoam or Styrofoam Cups - Pure Acetone (Beauty Sally) It was pretty fun seeing the styrofoam go down and later messing with the gooey stuff. Videoed this morning (03/02/2012, not 02/02 like YouTube says (different timezone)) before and during sunrise in south-eastern Poland, in the countryside. I've always wanted to try this, and it never got cold enough when I was there. Well, not until now, that is. Here, I throw boiling hot water into the air, thus flash-freezing and vaporising it. It needs to be very cold, ideally close to -30C (-22F) or below for this trick to work properly. At around -20C (-4F), you'll still get a lot of water splashing onto the ground - I tried it - so it needs to be colder. I'm usually in the UK, and it NEVER gets nearly as cold in London. This was during the culmination of the 2012 Siberian cold wave in Eastern Europe, on the coldest morning in six years in south-eastern Poland. The cold wave brought extreme cold to the eastern fringes of Poland, in addition to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, western Russia, all the way south to Slovakia, Romania, Serbia and Bulgaria, as well as bringing snowfall to Western and Southern Europe, where it's otherwise rare, including south-eastern England and London, parts of Italy as far south as Rome, as well as Greece, Istanbul in Turkey, and even beyond, in North Africa.
