Christmas is an excellent time of the year to form new memories with your children while working together on a wonderful craft. Learn how to make a pop up Christmas card that will delight any child this holiday season. Introduction --------------------------------------------------------------------- Some people like to send their children's homemade cards to relatives. If you plan to do this, make the process easier by having everything printed out and ready to go at once. Then, you can have your child cut out the trees while you do the assembly. It should take around 6 to 12 minutes to make one card. Step 1: Supplies --------------------------------------------------------------------- * Green construction paper * Red construction paper Scissors Glue Ruler * Markers * Green and red 3D glitter paints Step 2: Cutting Out the Shapes --------------------------------------------------------------------- * Fold both sheets of red construction paper in half lengthwise. Set one paper aside. It will be referred to as the background sheet. * Along the folded edge of the other paper, measure 3 1/2 inches from each corner and mark the two points. * Draw a 1 inch line up from the fold on both points. I'm tired of seeing all of these vids of these guys popping up the wrong way. The way shown will get you up quick, accurate, and balanced, so you'll be ready for the wave and whatever it throws at you. Really, you just hop up. I explained further in the vid but all the detailed stuff should come with practice and feel. Please don't get the part with your knees confused. You aren't going half-way up to your knees, then all the way to your feet. Your knees are just giving your body a place to support your weight before you hop to your feet. This is critical for a short board pop-up! Remember not to use the rails, or else your hands could slip, and screw up your whole ride. And arch your back to prevent pearling. In a real surfing scenario, your legs would be kick-paddling, so you don't necessarily have to swing your legs up like I showed in step 1, I find that the leg swing gives you more kinetic energy (I think), but as long as you can get up in one motion. Another tip I haven't thought of while making this video: Your hips contribute a lot into getting your feet below you. The best way to describe it is while your back is arched - you "explode" to your feet, by "sucking" your hips back in. Hope this video helps you with your new venture! Remember not to lose sight of the fact that surfing is fun! Peace.
