Farrell & Farrell - "People In A Box" - custom music video

Farrell & Farrell's "People In A Box" to my own custom video. This is one of their more popular songs from the 80's, kind a satirical look at how TV personalities and programs can influence our daily lives. What must realize is we are not slaves to their advice. We must renew our minds daily in the Word of God to keep us set apart from the pop psychology and filth coming into our homes through the media. *As a disclaimer, I am not knocking any of the people portrayed in this video. I'm simply pointing out how much of an influence they can have if we are not careful. So no idiot comments or they're gone. (Disclaimer: I do not own the song nor any of the pictures used. For entertainment purposes and spiritual growth only. From the album Jump To Conclusions, Star Song Records, 1985)

WHERE GOOD IDEAS COME FROM by Steven Johnson

One of our most innovative, popular thinkers takes on-in exhilarating style-one of our key questions: Where do good ideas come from? With Where Good Ideas Come From, Steven Johnson pairs the insight of his bestselling Everything Bad Is Good for You and the dazzling erudition of The Ghost Map and The Invention of Air to address an urgent and universal question: What sparks the flash of brilliance? How does groundbreaking innovation happen? Answering in his infectious, culturally omnivorous style, using his fluency in fields from neurobiology to popular culture, Johnson provides the complete, exciting, and encouraging story of how we generate the ideas that push our careers, our lives, our society, and our culture forward. Beginning with Charles Darwin's first encounter with the teeming ecosystem of the coral reef and drawing connections to the intellectual hyperproductivity of modern megacities and to the instant success of YouTube, Johnson shows us that the question we need to ask is, What kind of environment fosters the development of good ideas? His answers are never less than revelatory, convincing, and inspiring as Johnson identifies the seven key principles to the genesis of such ideas, and traces them across time and disciplines. Most exhilarating is Johnson's conclusion that with today's tools and environment, radical innovation is extraordinarily accessible to those who know how to cultivate it. Are You Popular? A Teenage Guide to Popularity (1947)

Popularity is the quality of being well-liked or common, or having a high social status. Popularity figures are an important part of many people's personal value systems and form a vital component of success in people-oriented fields such as management, politics, and entertainment, among others. Borrowed from the Latin popularis in 1490, originally meant common or "belonging to the people." The use of the word popular to mean the "fact or condition of being beloved by the people" is seen originally in 1601. Many different variations of popularity exist, and many ways in which to gain it. General popularity usually involves respect in two directions: a popular person is respected by peers and will reciprocate that respect, thus reinforcing the belief of deserving the popularity. Likewise, amicability is an important component of popularity, as a person who does not like others is unlikely to be liked by others. This reciprocal nature of interpersonal popularity is often overlooked by people (particularly the young) who are attempting to become popular: being loud may be successful in gaining attention, but is unlikely to provide mutual respect. Neuroimaging identifies the anterior insula and anterior cingulate as key areas in the brain determining whether people prefer something in regard to its being popular with their peer group. The influence of ones peer group upon is strongest during adolescence. Adolescence is characterized by a number of cognitive, emotional <b>...</b>

Coast To Coast AM - 27.4.2011 - 1/12 - Psychology of High School

MP3 www.4shared.com Psychology of High School: On Wednesday's show, investigative journalist Alexandra Robbins talked about the world of high school and how those who thrive in it are not necessarily the ones who end up successful in life. Being an outsider in high school has been viewed negatively especially since the Columbine shootings, but just because students don't conform or aren't popular doesn't make them bad people, she noted. In her new book, The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth, she followed the lives of seven real students whom she broke down into different categories. In the case of the 'Popular Girl,' ironically she was not that well liked. Further, Robbins reported that the "popular" kids tended to be more conformist, did less well in school, and were more likely to be involved in incidents of aggression. Other students she profiled included the 'Weird Girl,' the 'Gamer,' and the 'Nerd.' If schools were to celebrate the sciences the same way they do athletics, a lot more students might go into the sciences, and nerds wouldn't be shunned, Robbins commented. Students are foisted with a lot of labels now like "emo" and "indie" which refer to what you are, rather than the older labels (jock, greaser etc.) that referred to what you do, she observed. Robbins defined what she called Quirk Theory: "Many of the differences that cause a student to be excluded in school are the same qualities or real world skills that others are going to admire...in adulthood and <b>...</b>

Transpersonal Psychology

"There's a field called transpersonal psychology that's popular these days. But," reveals Shunyamurti, the spiritual guide of the Sat Yoga Institute, "it's kind of a misnomer because psychology deals with the personal. When you really get transpersonal, you are also transpsychological. . . . There is that which is trans or metapsychological within us—that's what we call the spiritual." And the first mistake that many people make on the spiritual path is identifying with the personal rather than the transpersonal. The personal/psychological realm is a labyrinth but "you can transcend that whole dimension of your being if you're willing to disidentify from the person." Shunyamurti explains that it's similar to watching "a movie that you really like, and you identify with the character. When you're watching that movie, you're not in your seat in the theater anymore, you're in the screen. You've identified with the character. And you're going through what the character is going through, and you're feeling all the anxiety, you know, 'Will the villain defeat the hero?' or whatever is going on. And yet, the moment the film becomes boring, you're back in your seat, and you're saying, "Wow that's a lousy film," and you're out of it. All you gotta do is realize your ego's a lousy film." It's as simple as that. "And the moment you realize, 'I don't need to do that anymore. I'm free. I'm done.' Then you're out." "That's what all the spiritual paths are about. It all comes down to <b>...</b>

Discovering psychology 3. The Behaving Brain part 1

The human brain is an extraordinarily complex organ made up of different regions and parts, each with its own function. Chemical molecules and electrical impulses constantly flow between regions of the brain, sending signals and messages to other parts of the brain and body. Much like an orchestra, brain functioning depends on many individual parts working together. One example highlighted in this program is the brain's role in our ability to remember. Psychologist Dr. Mieke Verfaellie studies the causes and effects of amnesia at the Memory Disorders Research Center in Boston. Her research draws on evidence of damage to the hippocampal region of the brain, the area responsible for laying down new memories. Contrary to popular opinion, amnesia doesn't result in the loss of all memory or identity. Amnesia affects our short-term, or anteograde memory, and our ability to learn and retain new information. What's interesting and often surprising in amnesia cases is that other regions of the brain continue to function normally, such as long-term memory. But damage to even one area, such as short-term memory, can dramatically affect our ability to navigate through daily life. Neuroscientists are learning from abnormal brain functioning, such as amnesia, to identify normal brain patterns. For instance, the interplay of brain regions and their role in thoughts, understanding, and behavior are now better understood.

Scientologies REAL View toward Civil Rights (intro)

In march 2008 I was then that I heard of a strange Internet collective, known as Anonymous. I was told that the Church of Scientology was more sinister than I would have imagined, and was invited to do more research. The horror stories appalled me, and before long I started adding my own commentary. It wasn't about the beliefs. It was about the criminal and human rights abuses of the church that L Ron Hubbard built. I found myself wondering if such abuses were merely due to corruption within the management, or drawn directly from the beliefs promoted by their founder. The most popular counter argument of scientologists, at that time, was that the critics didn't know anything about what they believed. I'm proud to have done my part to de-mystify their beliefs, however through all my criticism there are aspects of their beliefs which I was unwilling to tie together. The strange specter of Nazi Germany would send a shiver down my spine as I read through their sacred texts. Each time I would remind myself of Godwin's Law, and question my own perception. So I dug further and further into their material, seeking a little peace of mind. I didn't want to be right, and wanted desperately to be proven wrong. I even made a call to a high ranking member of the church's Office of Special Affairs, OSA. My hope was that they could put my mind to rest regarding this frightening aspect of their beliefs. While they were willing to discuss other matters, my pleas to provide some assurance <b>...</b>

The Curse of Worry

Worry is, perhaps, the most corrosive of useless thoughts. It gets in under your skin and bombards your mind when you least expect it. But, if you're worrying about something, greatly increase the chances of what you're worrying about coming to pass. Fill your mind with crap and a crap life is what you'll have. You need to clear your mind - ignore those useless worries. They won't go away but, if you don't give them any energy, they'll play no further part in the creation of a life over which you should choose to exercise full control...
