A collection of my colourisation work, presented with associated sound. Various clips have appeared in my earlier videos, but usually edited and ungraded. This is hopefully the definitive collection. This compendium includes colourisations from 'Invasion', 'The Power Of The Daleks', 'Tenth Planet', 'An Unearthly Child', 'The Aztecs' and 'The Daleks Master Plan', amongst others. I have no automated process, all the videos are colourised by hand, frame by frame. I capture each individual frame as a still image which I open in Adobe Photoshop to hand colourise. I then re-assemble the hundreds of frames, in order, in my video editing program and render as an avi file. The original PAL video souce is 25 frames a second, so this 5-and-a-half minute video represents over 8000 hand colourised frames. The 2 short clips of Brian Cant as Kert Gantry from 'The Daleks Master Plan' are unused shots from the 1 minute scene originally colourised for the 'Dalek Tapes' documentary on the 'Genesis of the Daleks' DVD, which was a collaborative work completed with James Russell. All other clips are purely my own work. I have not included any of my work colourising Jon Pertwee's monochrome episode 'Planet of the Daleks Part 3' as this has subsequently been commercially colourised for DVD release. In total I completed around 4 minutes of the project.

Why map portfolios to risk factors? It's a shortcut because portfolios are complicated; eg, even delta-normal VaR employing a covariance matrix contains n(n+1)/2 pair-wise correlations in a dreaded "curse of dimensionality." The reality of a portfolio's true risk exposure is both ultimately unknowable and undeniably complex. Mapping reduces the portfolio to a few key characteristics. The approximation sacrifices accuracy but makes the portfolio amenable to, say, stress testing.

This example is a portfolio of three stocks: GOOG, YHOO, and MSFT. Process is: 1. I calculated for each stock the historical series of daily periodic returns (bottom left, below). 2. For each historical day (eg, Friday 7/18), I calculate the portfolio gain/loss as if I held the current portfolio on that day. This is the essence of the idea: run historical returns through the current portfolio allocation. 3. This produces an historical series (right column, green) of simulated portfolio returns. Now I can treat as with the single-asset; eg, if I want 95% VaR, then I need = PERCENTILE(range, 5%)
