Rob Hopkins "Local Food" - Book Launch

Positive TV meetup with Rob Hoskins to discuss his new book about local food and shares his passion for growing more nut trees and why Garden sharing are one his favourite projects. This new book co-authored by Tamzin Pinkerton and Rob Hopkins brings together a very wide variety of projects, ideas, resources and information covering every aspect of developing local food supplies. There are chapters on skills, home growing, community gardens and orchards, food co-ops, schools projects and many more. Many of the projects described have started up recently and are small scale but there are examples of major, long running schemes like Stroud Community Agriculture which has been going since 2001, and now has four paid farmers, a paid administrator and nearly 200 members! Enjoy.

Loess Plateau

The enormity and beauty of this film never fails to stun me. This film made by John D Lui and his Earth's Hope project is truly wonderful. The Loess Plateau and area the size of France, was an eroded desert fifteen years ago.. Watch this PTV interview with John and marvel at the ingenuity of humanity, and be astonished.

Zeitgeist: The Summary

This film features an interview with Peter Joseph, the hugely successful director of the internet film phenomenon Zeitgeist: The Movie which has had millions of online views. We also speak to Jacque Fresco the architect of the Venus Project. The Zeitgeist Movement (TZM) is a worldwide grassroots organization that serves as the communication and activist arm of The Venus Project, founded by industrial designer and social engineer Jacque Fresco. It describes itself as a "sustainability advocacy organization" and is focused on raising awareness for a global social change, by transitioning society from a Monetary-Based Economy to a new, sustainable social design called a "Resource-Based Economy". The Zeitgeist Movement was inspired by the social response to Peter Joseph's films Zeitgeist: The Movie and Zeitgeist: Addendum. (It was Zeitgeist Addendum which first introduced The Venus Project.)

Celebrity Short with Mark Boyle

Mark Boyle is the founder of the Freeconomy Community and has lived moneyless for the last 18 months. His four main sources of food are foraging, growing his own food, bartering this with others and collecting waste food (Skipping or from local companies who throw it away.) His Website, justfortheloveofit.org hosts The Freeconomy Community whose aim is to help reconnect people in their local communities through the simple act of sharing. Not only is sharing resources better for the environment, it saves one money and builds friendships with those people who live closest to one. It is what we call a WIN-WIN-WIN situation. His book, The Moneyless Man, is out now, published by Oneworld, sales from the book will go to a charitable trust for the Freeconomy Community.

Andy Hamilton's Home Brewing

No, its not a wayward chemistry set, its a very special (and too complicated for us!) home brewing contraption! Andy Hamilton shows us his home brewing boudoir, and instructs is what to do with too many chamomile flowers, (clue- you drink it in a pint, and may be fussy about its head) sloes, and more. We learn that home brewing alcohol is great alternative to waste, while promoting self suffiency, and of course, having fun! Enjoy all Andys secrets to the art of home brewing, we especially enjoyed his canny shortcut to using grapes!

Fair Trade Books?

When the Net book agreement dissolved in 1997, for the first time in nearly 100 years, the prices of books began to tumble. Everybody likes a bargain! But what's the REAL price? Amazon marketplace offers books for one pence, so how much do you think the author gets?! How can that be sustainable? We have Fair Trade Coffee and Tea, do we now need to protect our wordsmiths too?

Jianshe - Qigong teacher

'Sheng sheng bu yi wei zhi Dao.' -- briefly translated means: 'All things in the Universe are always changing and improving -- this is the Dao'. As human beings, when we improve and change every day we feel good! The real purpose of Qigong is not just to practice but to keep improving ourselves; our health, our energy levels, our zest for life. John, a Qigong practitioner from Suffolk, says:- "Jianshe is one of those rare individuals whose attitude to life is refreshing. His modesty, charm and happiness are inspiring, his experience of the Zhineng system of Qigong is remarkable, and his ability to express his deep understanding in an accessible way make him a great teacher."

Roger Saul - Kilver Court Designer Emporium

PTV visits the opening of Mulberry founder Roger Saul's new Designer Emporium at Kilver Court in Shepton Mallet. Once a woolen mill, then the home of the 70's favorite drink BabyCham, Kilver has once again been re-purposed, this time by the charismatic Roger Saul. Roger, also the owner of Sharpham Park Farm, where he grows organic spelt, has plunged himself into the task of regenerating and redeveloping the mill, and in doing so, hopefully Shepton Mallet too! The shop is filled with designer goods that didn't sell out first time, so are recycled through his new shop, and given another chance. The blossoming new business, set in the most stunning surroundings also has a farm shop, doubles as a wedding venue and wellness centre, all creating many new jobs in this struggling area of England.

The Grail Lady Faire

The Grail Lady Faire To a Glastonbury veteran like me, the word festival usually conjures up images of stumbling through a muddy sea of bands and booze. This June, I travelled to Canada to experience a completely different type of festival, styled 'The Enlightened Woodstock for Women'. Over seven days there was a mind expanding, heart opening array of talks, workshops and performances. These internationally-renown women included writers, musicians, healers, activists and a Cree Nation Native Canadian Medicine Woman. But they all had one thing in common -- they are "Women Birthing the New Earth', dedicated to creating positive change in the world. The Faire far exceeded anything any of us expected. Women together talking freely, drumming, dancing, singing, healing - it felt very ancient and powerful, breaking out of the usual presenter/audience divide into a circle of sisters, each with an important part to play. And to top it all, Grail Springs is a stunning resort with a forest and a crystal clear lake for swimming and canoeing, where you can have saunas, massages, even full body seaweed wraps. And not a pair of muddy wellies in sight!

Krishna Prem - short 1

Krishna Prem is American born and raised. He left the States when he was 30 years old in search of himself. He first unpacked his bags in Shepperton, England and supported himself by being a bartender at the Ship Hotel. When he finished his shift at midnight, the only place he could find to eat was a local Indian restaurant. He fell in love with Indian food and one night after work, having imbibed a little too much local brew, he found himself on a one-way ticket to Bombay. Here he met his friend and teacher Osho and began his inner journey. For over 30 plus years now he has been leading meditations in the East as well as the West. Even though he is still in movement he no longer has a need to look for himself. He now knows the journey is the goal and enjoys being intimate with his friends all over the world. He finds the best way to go in is to go out with you. By always remembering 'meditation is not what you think' he has learned to laugh at himself and is intimately in touch with this cosmic joke called life.
