This is a look at "Why be prepared" 2.0. This is one single factor that is emerging currently that relates to the BOTH the dollar crisis and the pole shift that very well may be causing strange and extreme weather patterns to emerge through out the world. The freeze in Mexico was one of the first of its kind in over 60 years and back then there was no huge booming agricultural business in Mexico. This freeze has caused massive inflation and down right scarcity in produce at super markets. If the pole shift trend continues, it is very possible that we will see many events such as this where certain types of produce are incredibly expensive, or flat out impossible to buy at the grocery store. Sure this means that it could be harder to grow your own. But wouldn't you rather know you can grow your own? This just goes to show you that being prepared for the SHTF is a lot more about being able to grow food and live a sustainable lifestyle than it is about AK-47's and AR-15's. Until an all out WROL comes to pass, those guns will do no good (outside of being lots and lots of fun to pull the trigger). But learning to grow your own food absolutely will.

In preparation for the 2011 Reno Air Races, Stu takes Merlin's Magic to Hollister for an engine inspection. This is the full sized SOCOM, upsized from my also beloved Mini SOCOM Elites reviewed in 2008 (shown). If you're a knife maker and want to see how to achieve technical excellence, study the SOCOMs and this is a good place to start. I have FIVE here to show you in this epic Old School review. POUs of HEC, Tactical, Gift, and Collectiblility are discussed. At just 4.6 ounces, the weight alone for this BIG 4" blade is a technical achievement. You should credit the 6061 T6 anodized handle for that: no ridiculous steel inserts here, just a perfectly milled super light, pillar constructed, strong handle. Expect to find the proprietary Microtech fasteners in the newest SOCOMS, cool in looks, a hassle for maintenance. Blade shapes are perfection in the SOCOM. The clip/bowie one is my favorite for its elegance, amazing cutting capability, precise tip, and unsharpened swedge run. The Microtech Tanto in this knife, surprisingy to some maybe, is a CLOSE second: you will be struck by its strength and it's even faster, hard-thwack deployment.
