Google Search Privacy: Plain and Simple

In the first in a series of short, informative videos on privacy, Google talks about what information we collect when you use our search engine and the steps we've taken to protect it. In future videos, we'll talk about why Google keeps logs, what information we record when you're signed into a Google account and steps you can take to increase your privacy when surfing online. Much of this information is already available at our online Privacy Center at www.google.com
Death of Privacy: 'Your cell phone Big Brother's best friend'

Personal data being gathered on the worldwide web means bigger profits for the private sector and is also being shared with the police, argues Steve Rambam, founder and CEO of Pallorium Inc., an international online investigative service. At a time when electronic gadgets and hi-tech innovations dominate our lives, violating privacy and mining people's personal data is easier than ever. The damage that this 24-hour surveillance could do to society and its freedoms is overwhelming. RT on Twitter: twitter.com RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com

Jeffrey Rosen - Is Privacy Dead?

Complete video at: fora.tv George Washington University law professor Jeffrey Rosen discusses the challenges technology presents to conventional notions of privacy and civil liberties. ----- "Privacy is Dead. Long Live Privacy?" at the 2007 Battle of Ideas conference hosted by the Institute of Ideas. New technology seems to have changed the meaning of privacy, affording individuals the possibility of sharing details of their hitherto private lives in unprecedented ways, from personal blogs to picture sharing and even 'social bookmarking'. For many of us, divulging intimate details of our private lives via social networking websites like MySpace and Facebook has become the norm. But information and communication technologies have also facilitated surveillance and data gathering by government and big businesses. While in some contexts we seem so ready to give up our privacy, in others we seem increasingly anxious to protect it. To what extent are new technologies responsible for the death of privacy? Are privacy concerns simply technophobic, or are we right to worry about a loss of control over personal information? Have new technologies and our enthusiastic adoption of them actually transformed our notions of public and private, and blown apart the wall dividing the two? Why do we worry about Tesco monitoring what we buy, when, according to Sun Microsystems CEO Scott McNealy: 'You have zero privacy anyway. Get over it'? - Institute of Ideas Jeffrey Rosen is a professor of ...

CISPA: say 'goodbye' to privacy and freedom

Lately Congress has attempted to sneak legislation that could change the face of the Internet as we know it, and all in the name of national security. First there was SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act, but now CISPA (Cyber Intelligence Sharing Protection Act) is threatening the privacy and freedom of US citizens. No online activity will be safe when it comes to these bills because as of now what's considered a cyber security threat is a large grey area, but David Seaman, journalist and host of The DL Show, joins us to take a closer look at CISPA. Censorship, Privacy, Anonymity, and Net Neutrality

March 4, 2011 - Adam Beberg presents several topics related to daily life on the Internet, suitable for a wide and non-technical audience. His work over the last two decades has centered around Distributed Computing, Security, and Education. Censorship limits what can be found when looking for news and information. Privacy is far more important than in the past since everything one does on the Internet can come back to do damage years later. Anonymity has turned the world into a happy but deceptive place, safer for both whistle-blowers and criminals. Net Neutrality is a three-way crash between technology, business, and political realities, that may have serious consequences for future freedoms and business opportunities. Google privacy changes streamline personal info

Google is under scrutiny once again. Google's latest privacy changes went into effect on Thursday and the search engine giant claims the modifications will make a more personalized internet surfing experience. Now all Google's services such as Gmail and YouTube will now streamline into one profile. Critics believe these changes will allow the company to gather vast amounts of personal information on any given user. Conn Hallinan, columnist for Foreign Policy in Focus, joins us to give his taken on what Google is doing with this information. Like us and/or follow us: twitter.com www.facebook.com

FTC Releases Online Privacy Report, Pushes for "Do Not Track" Button

Ever have that feeling you're being watched online? By the end of the year you may be able let go of that anxiety. A month after the White House pushed a privacy bill of rights for consumers, the FTC has released a report addressing consumer privacy concerns. The commission also pledges an easy-to-use "Do Not Track," button Internet users can click so their data isn't collected. The FTC will work with companies like Google, Apple, and Facebook who have been criticized in recent years for obtaining data surreptitiously, to make sure they get "affirmative express consent" from consumers before using their data. Google and Apple faced backlash as recently as February, for collecting data from apps targeted at children. The report focused specifically on mobile data collection, important now because nearly 43 percent of mobile phone subscribers are reportedly using smartphones. Granted, it's all a bit like Big Brother regulating Big Brother. But somebody's got to watch the people who watch you, right?

Keynote: Jeff Jarvis: "Privacy and publicness and the power behind it"

Jeff Jarvis examines the tension between privacy and publicness that is transforming how we form communities, create identities, do business, and live our lives. Thanks to the internet, we now live - more and more - in public. More than 845 million people (and half of all Americans) use Facebook, where we share a billion times a day. The collective voice of Twitter echoes instantly 100 million times daily, from Tahrir Square to the Mall of America, on subjects that range from democratic reform to unfolding natural disasters to celebrity gossip. Yet change brings fear to many, including despair that the internet and how we share there is making us dumber, distracted, and vulnerable to threats of all kinds. But Jeff Jarvis is not that worried. He will give us his view on how the internet and our new sense of publicness are, in fact, doing the opposite. webbdagarna.se Webbdagarna Stockholm 2012 Stockholm Waterfront 2012-03-22

Was heißt, so gut wie möglich?
