Supporters of the Anonymous hacker group, which is calling to halt moves by governments to tighten control over the internet, gathered near the Pompidou Center in Paris on Saturday. The group says it is trying to attract ordinary citizens' attention to the violation of rights and freedoms. In particular, the group is protesting against the controversial Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), which promotes the creation of criminal sanctions against internet providers and users who do not comply with the legality of content saved or uploaded. Three topless Ukrainian protesters were detained on Saturday while trying to break into an invitation-only gathering of international CEOs and political leaders to call attention to the needs of the world's poor. After a complicated journey to reach the heavily guarded Swiss resort town of Davos, the women arrived at the entrance to the congress centre where the World Economic Forum takes place every year. With temperatures around freezing in the snow-filled town, they took off their tops and climbed a fence before being detained. Davos police spokesman Thomas Hobi said the three women were taken to the police station and their papers were checked. The activists are from the group Femen, which has become popular in Ukraine for staging small, half-naked protests to highlight a range of issues including oppression of political opposition. The parliamentary election results have left opposition supporters in an angry mood. Moscow has seen crowds of up to 10000 take to the streets; over 300 have been arrested, reports RIA Novosti news agency. Police have counted 2000 demonstrators, but unofficial estimates say up to 10000 people made their way to Chistye Prudy Park to attend a meeting staged by the opposition movement "Solidarnost" (Solidarity). "Shame!" chanted the crowd. The demonstrators claimed the United Russia party had rigged the voting results. Meanwhile, as the Central Election Commission has almost done its counting, United Russia is coming in with almost 50 per cent of the vote. Police had already cordoned the area off for a meeting, which only 700 people had been authorized to join.
