Round 2 Highlights - Quiksilver Pro France 2011

Every Heat, Backstage Clips, Highlight Videos, Photos and much more... quiksilverlive.com LA GRAVIERE, Hossegor/France (Thursday, October 6, 2011) -- The Quiksilver Pro France completed Heats 4 through 8 of Round 2 this morning in shifting four-to-six (1.5 -- 2 metre) waves this morning before calling competition off for the day due to onshore winds. Event No. 8 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Tour, the Quiksilver Pro France plays a vital role in both the hunt for the 2011 ASP World Title and the requalification campaigns of the world's best surfers, and has already bore witness to some major upsets in the opening days of competition. Tiago Pires (PRT), 31, navigated this morning's tricky conditions to upset current No. 5 on the ASP World Title rankings, Josh Kerr (AUS), 27, in the opening heat of the morning. "It's really hard out there this morning," Pires said. "There are some really good ones, but the water is moving so much. It's challenging. I was fortunate to find a really good one that stayed open and I got a pretty decent barrel. Josh (Kerr) has been in really good form the last few events so I'm happy to get past him." Gabriel Medina (BRA), 17, newcomer to the elite ASP Top 34 following September's rotation, utilized his lethal backhand to take down Dusty Payne (HAW), 22, in Round 2 of competition. "Dusty (Payne) is such a good surfer and can get the score at any moment," Medina said. "The lineup is very shifty and it's very difficult to be in the correct spot. You <b>...</b>

Every Heat, Backstage Clips, Highlight Videos, Photos and much more... quiksilverlive.com LA GRAVIERE, Hossegor/France (Wednesday, October 12, 2011) -- Gabriel Medina (BRA), 17, newcomer to the elite ASP Top 34 after September's rotation, has secured his inaugural ASP World Title victory today, taking out the Quiksilver Pro France over Julian Wilson (AUS), 22, in high-performance three-to-four foot (1 metre) waves at La Graviere. Stop No. 8 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Quiksilver Pro France culminated today in exciting fashion as the next generation of ASP World Title contenders announced their intentions on the world stage. Medina, in only second event as an ASP Top 34 member, cut a swathe through the world's best surfers, securing three of the top five highest single-wave scores of the event en route to his emotional win. "This is the best feeling ever," Medina said. "I beat some great guys on the way to Final and I'm very stoked now. I want to thank all my friends and family and god for their support. It has been an amazing week for me. Just two years ago, I was here competing in the King of the Groms and I won that event and now I'm here in the main event and I've won it. It doesn't seem real."

Every Heat, Backstage Clips, Highlight Videos, Photos and much more... quiksilverlive.com Event No. 8 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Quiksilver Pro France rampaged through 12 heats of competition today that saw a number of upsets as well as impressive performances by the event's top seeds. Kelly Slater (USA), 39, reigning 10-time ASP World Champion, posted a convincing win over wildcard Ramzi Boukhiam (MAR), 17, in Round 3 of competition. The iconic Floridian was all business for his midday bout, closely analyzing the conditions and posting the highest heat total of the day, a 16.90 out of a possible 20, for an impressive display of backhand surfing. "I was nervous before the heat because there have been a few that have been slow and guys haven't been getting waves," Slater said. "I started loosening up there at the end. With the tide changing, I was somewhat confident that the lefts would begin offering better scoring opportunities and that's where I got my two best waves." The past three events have seen the historic exchange between Slater and young Australian Owen Wright (AUS), 21. The two have made the last three, consecutive Finals (an ASP first) and have ignited one of the greatest ASP World Title races in recent years. "I've always known Owen (Wright) to be building up and building up," Slater said. "By the way people talk, I'm stoked to still be standing. These young guys are incredible. Round 1 Highlights - Quiksilver Pro France 2011

Every Heat, Backstage Clips, Highlight Videos, Photos and much more... quiksilverlive.com LA GRAVIERE, Hossegor/France (Wednesday, October 5, 2011) -- La Graviere delivered heaving 2 meters lefts and rights today for opening day of competition at the Quiksilver Pro France. Event No. 8 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Quiksilver Pro France saw the world's best surfers do battle in the shifting beachbreaks of Southwest France, completing Round 1 and the opening three heats of Round 2 before day's end. Mick Fanning (AUS), 30, two-time ASP World Champion (2007 and 2009) and defending Quiksilver Pro France winner, scored a sensational 9.37 out of a possible 10 for an incredible forehand barrel to take the victory in the dying moments of his Round 1 heat. "It was a wild end to that heat," Fanning said. "Brett (Simpson) surfed great. He started with an 8 and got a 7 to take the lead and he was really looking in form. He pushed me deep really deep at the end, but I saw the wave had double up and had to put the rocket boots on when I stood up. It had a great line and I was stoked to make it out." Fanning's combined wave total of an 18.20 out of a possible 20 marked the highest of the day, clearly announcing the defending champ's intentions for the European leg of the ASP World Title Series. "You have to be able to adapt in France," Fanning said. "The wave changes so much and shows you so many different faces. I have a great board now that Simon (Anderson) shaped for <b>...</b>

Every Heat, Backstage Clips, Highlight Videos, Photos and much more... quiksilverlive.com After surviving this morning's five-hour fog delay, the Quiksilver Pro France resumed in clean three-to-five foot (1 -- 1.5 metre) conditions at La Graviere, completing Rounds 4 and 5 of competition. Event No. 8 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title series, the Quiksilver Pro France bore witness to some impressive surfing this afternoon with the Quarterfinalists being determined in picturesque conditions. Taj Burrow (AUS), 33, current No. 6 on the ASP World Title rankings, blitzed his afternoon Round 4 heat today, comboing both Owen Wright (AUS), 21, and Damien Hobgood (USA), 32, with explosive surfing on his backhand and forehand. "I did have fun in that heat," Burrow said. "It went my way towards the end and I got some really nice rights and some good lefts too. I'm sure Owen (Wright) would have loved to have been on a couple of those lefts as they really lined up nicely. It felt great to post some good scores and hopefully the conditions remain fun and consistent for the rest of the event." Burrow will take on Julian Wilson (AUS), 22, in Quarterfinal 4. Kelly Slater (USA), 39, reigning 10-time ASP World Champion, continued his surgical dismantling of the La Graviere peaks today, generating unmatched speed and flow to claim his Round 4 victory and advance directly into the Quarterfinals. FINALS DAY - Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships Piha NZ 2010

Kiwis Finish Seventh The Rip Curl New Zealand Junior Surfing Team have finished seventh at the 2010 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship completed today (Thursday 28th January). The event has taken place at Piha Beach, New Zealand over the past eight days with a classic mix of stormy West Coast weather and perfect sunshine and pumping waves. The surf remained around the 1.0m mark throughout the day. With the full tide in the morning, the surfers utilised the inside righthanders in the middle of Piha Beach. As the tide went out the surfers shifted the! ir attention over to the lefthanders of the Piha Bar. Kiwis had their chances to march up the ratings table on the final day of the event but fell short early in the morning when they lost their final two surfers Ben Poulter (Rag) in the Under 16 Boys Repechage Semifinal and Sarah Mason in the Under 18 Girls Repechage Round 7. Poulter was the highest placed Kiwi placing sixth overall in the Under 16 Boys Division. Yeah stoked, definitely a better result than I thought I was going to get commented Poulter post heat. After slashing his foot open late on Tuesday, the young surfer had to compete with a coating of numbing gel to ease the pain but he was quick to push that aside as a reason for his loss My foot was sore but I had some numbing gel and I put that on it so it was fine, it didnt hurt during the heat said Poulter. DAY 4 - Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships Piha NZ 2010

Girls Shine On Day Four At Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship It was girl fever at the 2010 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Piha today, with the under 18 girls wetting their rails on day four in New Zealand. With easing 3-4ft (1m) beach break conditions, contest organisers opted to run qualifying rounds one and two of the under 18 girls on the main event podium, along with repechage one and two of the under 16 boys and repechage two of the under 18 boys on podium two. After three days off, the girls shredded the south Piha line-up to shreds, pushing the limit in the race for all-important qualifying round three berths. Defending U/18 girls ISA World Junior champion Tyler Wright (Lennox Heads, Aus) kicked off her title defence in style, netting ! both the opening rounds highest individual wave score (8.5) and two-wave combined total (14.00). The talented natural foot, who is the youngest surfer to ever win an ASP World Tour event, looked composed in the bumpy conditions to easily beat the Portugal pairing of Ana Sarmento and Maria Abecasis. Im very happy with this result, said Wright. There were some fun waves coming through and Im glad about how I surfed. I had to wait for a good one, but it finally came and I got the score. But she wasnt so dominant in her qualifying round two heat, outscored by USAs Courntey Conlogue in one of the heats of the day.
