This is a cover of one of my fave ska-tunes (originally by Prince Buster and The All-Stars), also a nod to all those record collectors out there who kindly upload their rare 45s for our listening pleasure. Well here's a slice of vinyl, so rare that it doesn't actually exist. I recently bought a tenor saxophone from a man in the street in Glasgow. Its a bit knackered and I can hardly play it, but am trying. This tune is probably a bit beyond me, but what the hey! Erroneously referred over the internet as a folk song originating from the province of Batanggas, "Princesa Ng Kumintang" is a composition of Francisco Buencamino of San Miguel de Mayumo, Bulacan. Interpreted by the Mabuhay Singers under the music direction of Leopoldo Silos. He was born on November 5, 1883 in San Miguel de Mayumo, Bulacan. His father Fortunato, a church organist and band master, taught him music at a very early age. His mother Luisa, meanwhile, was a singer. At age 12, he could already play the organ. His early exposure to music was complemented by education in composition and harmony at the Liceo de Manila, where Marcelo Adonay, an eminent composer and conductor in the late 19th century, served as his mentor. After graduating from the Liceo, Buencamino composed a number of Tagalog operettas or sarswelas, including Marcela (1904), Si Tio Selo (1904), Yayang (1905), and Pangakong Hindi Natupad (1905). Buencamino taught at the Ateneo de Manila in the early 1900s. He also taught at the Centro Escolar de Señoritas and headed its Music Department for 30 years. Dandansoy is a Visayan folk song. Interpreted by the Mabuhay Singers under the music supervision of Leopoldo Silos. Audio from a vinyl phonograph recording ("Ohoy Alibangbang, Mabuhay Singers, Leopoldo Silos) Villar Records MLS-5159, Mareco Inc.) A song of affection, Dandansoy is sung in the Hiligaynon language. In the song, the singer bids farewell to a boy named Dandansoy.The song is alleged to have been written by Augorio Abeto who hails from Binalbagan. Augorio was a famous Ilonggo poet during the 1930′s. Another claimant to the song is Fortunata Magsipoc Ledesma from Culasi, Antique. Supporters of this claim said "Dandansoy" is from the phrase "ang daan nga dalan gin usoy." Others from Leyte also claims that the song was originally theirs. Literal Translation in English: Dandansoy, I will leave you I'm going home to Payao (the hut) If in case you will miss (me) Just look at the Payao (hut's) direction. Dandansoy, if you will come after (me) don't bring anything, Even water should you get thirsty dig a small well on the road Convent, where is the priest? City hall, where is justice? About the music -- Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe were 4-of-the-5 members of YES during their most prolific prog-rock years: 1971/1972. In 1989 after Jon Anderson quit the version of YES that released big hits like "Owner Of A Lonely Heart," these four members released a self-titled album (aka ABWH). This 45 is a single remix of a larger 4-part song called "Quartet." To my knowledge, this version is NOT AVAILABLE ON CD or DOWNLOAD anywhere. So this may be the only way to hear this version. This is a real version released by The Cure on the 12" Ficsx17, awesome mixed 80's madness, one of the longest versions the Cure has done to date, You can snag this on ebay.... the 12 inch label or sleeve does not say extended. Recorded loud and clear from my original 1982 vinyl, not 1983 as some people keep saying...If your a real Cure fan, you would know this is real and not a fake mix by myself. How lame are people to say that. This is the loudest and clearest sounding post of this version on youtube. Blow it up!

Metal stamper record made by Apollo Records turns out to be a blues / rock and roll 45-RPM vinyl single from 1957. Note from August 10, 2008: Tom Chase has identified this record as being "Not Anymore" by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. This record was originally released on 78RPM on the Timely label in 1954. I love all the vinyl versions, but this is the best in my opinion.... I have not found this anywhere other than bootleg cd and maybe the Japan box sets....but recording it loud and clear from my original barely played vinyl sounds way better.
