"The King in the Field" starring Ari Raskin
Ari Raskin delivers an inspiring message conveyed through a beautiful melody and powerful video footage. After having their flight delayed, following the shooting of another major project, this video was spontaneously filmed in Eastern Europe by music producer Danny Finkelman and directed by Tzirel Raskin. The "King in the Field" is a song by Isaac Bitton which depicts the well-known parable of a King who is closely guarded by his soldiers, hidden away in his chambers. Only those who are invited are able to greet the King and converse with him. However, on rare occasions, there are times when the King leaves his castle and wanders the streets and fields meeting ordinary folks and hearing the plight of his townspeople. During this time, the King is gracious to his subjects, he shows each one of them personal interest, and even accepts their petitions and requests. This is what the Jewish month of Elul is all about. Gd is closer now than any other time, closely listening to our requests and prayers and allowing us to connect with him on a deeper level. This is an interview with Aza Raskin, who is one of Fast Company's top 50 most influential US designers, about getting stakeholder buy-in for UX research. The interview was conducted by Tomer Sharon, a Google UX researcher, for his book, "It's Our Research: Getting stakeholder buy-in for user experience research projects". Named an interface guru by Wired and one of the top 50 Influential US Designers by Fast Company, Aza is the co-founder of Massive Health, and was until recently Creative Lead for Firefox. Previously, he was a founding member of Mozilla Labs. Aza gave his first talk on user interface at age 10 and got hooked. At 17, he was talking and consulting internationally. Aza has founded and sold two companies, including Songza.com, a minimalist music search engine that had over a million song plays in its first week. He also creates modular cardboard furniture called Bloxes. In another life, Aza has done Dark Matter research at both Tokyo University and the University of Chicago, from where he graduated honors in physics and math. He is known to pun too much.

Mary Hopkin's Those Where The Day's Performed On Yamaha Tyros 4 By Rico Klaus Wunderlich Style In the 1960s Mary Hopkin and Sandie Shaw also sang the song in French, as well as in Italian, Spanish and German. Both Shaw's and Hopkin's versions were released roughly around the same time, as a sort of competition between the two, to see whose single would fare better with the public. When Hopkin's album, Postcard, was re-released on CD, the Spanish and Italian versions of the songs appeared as bonus tracks. Sandie Shaw has had all of her versions re-released on separate CDs, split up by language it is best remembered for Mary Hopkin's 1968 recording, which was a top-ten hit in both the US and the UK On most records of the song, Gene Raskin is credited as the writer of the song, even though he just wrote the English lyrics and not the melody

Jonah Raskin on marijuana
Jonah Raskin is a major figure in counterculture journalism. He holds a Ph.D. in English and American literature, though he got much of his education after he joined the Yippies and raised hell with Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin and Paul Krassner. Raskin helped Abbie Hoffman go underground in 1974 and wrote a novel out of that experience, Underground. He has covered just about every major counterculture event of his time, from the birth of the American Indian Movement to the persecution of the Black Panthers. Jonah Raskin was there. He also documented and celebrated counterculture literature like no one else, championing the lesser-known work of Jack London and B. Traven. Raskin devoted years to solving the riddle of Traven's true identity, only to discover that Traven would be shrouded forever in mystery. Raskin's film Homegrown was the first serious attempt to introduce the Emerald Triangle to Hollywood, and he has just written Marijuanaland, a journalistic foray around the state of California to examine all things cannabis-related and locate the center of gravity on marijuana in North America.

Look! Up in the Sky! It's a bird; it's a plane; it's Jef Raskin! Directed by Hud Nordin. Renaissance Man and Computer Architect Jef Raskin invented the Macinosh. He tells why he named it Macintosh, and what the environment was like around him as he built the first Macintosh computer ever. Jef, the model airplane enthusiast, demonstrates an extremely low-cost radio-controlled plane he designed which is made out of cardboard. And a 5-cylinder .025 cubic inch model airplane engine which he designed, and machined himself. It is made out of pieces that look like they came from a mechanical watch. Jef, the musician and instrument-builder, shows professional music scores he typeset using a program he wrote on an early Macintosh, and explains the operation of The Automatic Piano Tuner, for which, among many other inventions, he holds the patent. Jef, the artist, tells about gigantic sculptures he has made, displayed, and shown at many of the most famous art museums. Ditto for his graphic art. Jef, the product designer and ergonomicist, explains the difficulty often experienced in recognizing the difference between 'better' and 'best,' and the astronomical damage that just one person who says, "But we don't do it that way." can do. Insights on Privacy - Adam Greenfield and Aza Raskin
On April 20th, 2011, our Office held the third Insights on Privacy armchair discussion. We heard in February about what motivates us to reveal or conceal details of our personal lives, and how we protect the private lives of others around us. To complement this talk, we invited tech innovators Adam Greenfield (@agpublic) and Aza Raskin (@azaaza) to explore opportunities for privacy in the design of intimate devices, like smart phones, that we share our lives with every day, to the sensor-rich landscape that's upon us. We discussed opportunities for companies to empower individuals with greater choice and control over how their data are used and for greater collaboration within and across industry sectors. In his 2006 book Everyware, Adam Greenfield argued that we were headed for a world in which keeping the boundaries between different roles in our lives was going to prove untenable. That notion is coming to pass with the current debate over the public/private divide and the blurring of our various roles and reputations online. Adam was Nokia's head of design direction for user interface and services from 2008 to 2010 and Lead Information Architect at Razorfish Tokyo. His current projects through Urbanscale focus on improving how users experience technology, such as stored-value cards for public transit and many other "smart-city" initiatives. 78s - NOLA - Milt Raskin's Hollywood Ragtimers
Nola Song Felix Arndt - 1915: What the Mississippi Rag is to piano ragtime, Nola is to the genre of Novelty piano solos. While actually not a true novelty rag, it was certainly a pioneering effort in that direction and one of the most well known pieces of a style that would ultimately become a display of pianistic prowess. Arndt started out as a self-taught pianist and later studied with some of the best teachers in New York. He became a staff musician for the Duo-Art reproducing piano company, cutting many spectacular rolls totaling 3000 in all during his short tenure there. Nola was composed for his fiance of the time, Nola Locke, who was both a vocal teacher and professional concert singer. This piano solo caught on very quickly, and lyrics were later added to a simplified version of it. There was even a modified fox trot edition in the early 1920s. Unfortunately for all, Arndt's life was cut short during the world-wide flu epidemic of 1918.
