My Entry for the Portal 2 Song Contest: www.thinkwithportals.com Inspired by the comic "Lab Rat" from Valve: www.thinkwithportals.com Doug Rattmann, former scientist at Aperture Laboratories, fights the outcome of an experiment gone wrong years ago. After waking up from stasis he has to find a way to get things cleaned up. Some interesting facts: - I did this all alone - I had to set up a green screen without any clue where or how to do it - forcing a beard to grow in less than a week isn't as easy as it sounds - the 'Gordon-Freeman-Memorial-Beard' of the young Rattmann is there on purpose... - the lightning was done with two fluorescent lamps to catch the sterile atmosphere of Aperture Science - Avid Studio was used for the effects; however, an export to HD-material did not work out so far

I don't know much about the man personally, but the most I know about Doug Rattmann is that he's an ex-scientist at Aperture Science who went mad after GLaDOS killed several of his fellow coworkers and continued to hide away from GLaDOS' reach while leaving behind drawings and pictures to signify his being. And now he could still be alive...even...following me. (Oh man, so much went into this one, particularly due to several rewrites of how the scenes should play out and whatnot, especially the first one. Originally I was going to have myself assume that GLaDOS' surprise was that she was going to kill me, but then the dialog in the first chamber of the next chamber changed that, so I had to have myself believe in the surprise that GLaDOS hints at, which is that you're going to see your parents. Though I did leave a bit of paranoia about the flip-flopping between those two possibilities in because I wanted to establish my character as growing increasingly madder and madder, though not to Doug Rattmann levels, I hope.)

Okay, so I'm wondering if the Shadow that moves past during the turret opera at the end of the game is actually Rattmann? I know he died and all, but he DID put himself in an oxygen chamber. Maybe he got out or something? I'm also wondering if he happen to be carrying the companion cube? He could be the one who threw it out to Chell. It's driving me insane trying to think about weather it's Rattmann or just another Turret. Anyway, let me know what you think. All opinions are welcome(even the mean ones).

I still can't get over how brilliant a nickname that is; PotatOS! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (Sorry; my story self just inhaled an entire tank of laughing gas before thinking what the description would be generated as. Anyways, you might have noticed a slight difference in the opening. Usually, each video of a certain chapter will have the same musical piece; for this chapter, Chapter 6, it was "Music of the Spheres," but considering that the piece plays right when the footage starts as well, I felt it would be kind of redundant have that song play for 16 seconds, only for it to start playing again from the start in the footage. The one used for this opening is "Vitrification Order," which starts playing after the elevator crashes in the beginning of the chapter. Also, the Rattmann segment for this is probably the longest one so far, since the song I used for it ("Forwarding the Cause of Science") was too short to accommodate the entire thing, so I slapped a bit of "Vitrification Order" at the beginning to help it along. Also, who's voicing GLaDOS in that segment, you may ask? Well, it's none other than CanisSkye! Ironic considering she's working off of Phantom, who voices Rattmann. Also, no Portal 2 for next week; videos maybe, but not Portal 2. ANYWAYS, LONG DESCRIPTION IS LONG! Hunter James; I'm done here!)

My entry for the Exile, Vilify music video contest, held by Valve. Here's what was going through my head as I was making this video: Doug Ratmann, a former Aperture employee, is trapped in the Enrichment Center, trying to escape the malicious AI that has taken over. His exile is slowly driving him mad, yet a ray of hope shines through the bleakness of the situation in the form of a young, headstrong test subject, Chell. As she struggles to escape Aperture (by playing the song), Ratmann tries to help her (by playing the violin to accompany her). In the end, Chell manages to escape by finishing the melody, yet the fate of Doug Ratmann is unknown. Filmed and edited by me. Doug Rattmann played by Sarah (HermioneJG3) Chell played by me. Portal 2 and related media belong to Valve. "Exile, Vilify" belongs to The National. I do not own the characters depicted in the video.

On the interwebz there's been this thing they have been speculating about Ratman speaking behind a wall in one of his dens inside the game. I forget which level it was, but hey, I got the sound file anyways (sp_a1_intro3_r1.wav). While listening to it, I could hardly decipher anything so I decided to slow it down and with success :D now, most of his message can be listened to in natural speaking speed. Here's a few that I actually understood: "I'm Dying, Help me 'coz I'm sick. I need you to do something. Help me." "The ship destroyed. The ship died." Of course it's open for speculation.
