In just under 4 hours, leftover parts were used to make a neat RC airplane as demonstrated in Mr. Herbert's Science Class. It's called "The Junkyard Dog". Using mostly COX airplane parts from models gone by the wayside, I'll show you how I made mine with no plans or a kit. Tired of the noise and mess of my full size airplanes, and since electrics have come a long way, I've become intrigued by them. So needing a break from all the muss and fuss of the full size, gas RC planes, I decided to try to make my own electric plane, with what I learned the hard way over the years. Let's see if I learned anything, and hopefully, if you decide to make one too, you will get some insight from this video. Thanks a lot for watching.

It was the day before "the big snow storm of 2011" and already it was getting too cold for the sissies at the SWMAC to fly their RC planes. Brent "groomed the tarmac" with his MX 2 and spent the rest of the day fixing up the motor-mount. The gokarts next door were in full force, with a downpour of rain making for lots of spin-outs. See my other videos for successful flights of this plane. Basically, I was being stupid and didn't have my battery completely secured down (it was really cold outside and the velcro strips were coming loose, apparently at a certain temperature the adhesive quits working, but I really wanted to get in one more flight!). And, go figure, it came loose, I lost all power and my center of gravity was pulled forward when the battery shifted forward. It put the plane into a nose dive and you can see the rest! The camera and wing were fine, but the fuselage was completely busted. Photos of the plane, pre and post crash here: myrcguide.com This video was taken with a Canon SD1400 IS camera (720p @ 30 fps). The plane is a scratch built foamie with a 50 inch x 12 inch wing, Grayson Hobby 2217-06 (1500 kV) motor, 8x4 APC slowfly prop, 30A Exceed RC Volcano brushless ESC, HobbyKing 6 channel spektrum-compatible Orange Rx, 5000 mAh 25C Blue Lipo, and 3 x 9-gram servos. The plane is made out of foam board from Staples, hot glue, and popsicle sticks. It is controlled with elevator and ailerons only. This plane flies great and it basically an amped up version of the FPV plane from Mikey'sRC (I added a larger wing, a larger/enclosed fuselage, and a kfm2 airfoil, but his FPV plane served as my platform for this design).
