BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT
High profile lawyer, Martin Hunter (Michael Douglas) has an impeccable record putting criminals behind bars and is a shoo-in for governor in the upcoming election. But when ambitious rookie journalist, CJ (Jesse Metcalfe) begins investigating Hunter for tampering with evidence to secure his convictions, the district attorneys perfect record is up for scrutiny. Commencing a risky game of cat and mouse with Hunter, CJ frames himself as a murder suspect to catch the corrupt DA in the act. Romantically involved with CJ but unaware of his assignment, assistant DA Ella Crystal (Amber Tamblyn) becomes caught between her bosss political ambitions and CJs dangerous exposé. As mounting evidence stacks up against both men, Ellas own life becomes threatened when she discovers incriminating proof that puts the fate of both Nichols innocence and Hunters reputation in her hands.

This is my speech to the Secular Students of Collin College, Spring Creek campus, 02/17/2012. Thanks for having me, guys. Sadly, I forgot to bring my own camera, and there was no way to record the Q&A. Some of that was pretty good. My favorite bit was when a William Lane Craig supporter said, "But you only proved that he lied ONCE...." We then argued about who is the more oppressed in American society, Christians or atheists. I wish we had a recording of that discussion because it was amusing.

9/11: Beyond a Reasonable Doubt
A summary of the most compelling and convincing evidence that exists in direct contrast to the official story of what really happened on 9/11/2001 I was at home making tamales recently. While steaming the tamales, I had the flame on my stove set to high, and after about 50 minutes the steel pot with the tamales inside began to melt. At that point, of course, total collapse was inevitable. Sure enough, I watched as the lid and the tamales fell, causing the rest of the pot and then the entire stove to come straight down at near freefall speed. And, as was to be expected, the pot, the tamales, and the stove were all pulverized into dust, leaving only a tiny pile of rubble no more than a couple of inches high. By the way, later that evening my refrigerator also collapsed into its own footprint at near freefall speed. Even though no tamales were prepared on the refrigerator that day, I'm sure there is a perfectly good explanation that doesn't really need any further investigation or analysis. On a somewhat unrelated note, while cooking the tamales, and before the stove collapsed, I looked out my window and noticed a city bus, wildly off-course, barreling down my street and heading straight for my house. Well, it must have been going really fast, because when it hit my house it was completely vaporized (along with all of its passengers), leaving only a small hole in the side of my house, no more than a couple of inches in diameter. A full blackout is a reasonable response, because, in the language that is so popular with politicians, SOPA is going to result in excessive regulation that will cost jobs and likely cause significant increases in the cost of services, perhaps to the point where those services will no longer be able to provided on an ad supported or free to consumer basis. The only impediment is how to make this coordinated. For instance all the Google, Bing, and Yahoo are going to have cooperate. Otherwise any blackout may simply result in loss of customers for one service, not a clear message to call one's representative. I suspect that if the services choose a minute during the day when no results are returned, only a message to call your representative and state your opinion on SOPA, the bill will die. If Google and MS tell users that search will die if SOPA is passed, no amount of politicking will be able to counteract that message. Anything less is a show of support for SOPA by the major players.
