20% renewable energy by 2020

Raising the share of renewable energy from 8.5% to 20% in the overall energy consumption is a necessary contribution to the global fight against climate change and towards better control over our energy dependence. The various uses of renewable energy are examined: electricity through wind and hydraulic energies; electricity or heat through geothermal and solar energies; electricity, heat, and biofuel coming from biomass. The EU is a world leader in the use and deployment of technologies that exploit renewable energy sources, providing over 350.000 jobs and an annual turn-over of € 30 billion. Iranians explore renewable energy sources

From wind turbines to solar panels Iranians are becoming more aware and turning towards renewable energy sources. They're also trying to find ways to reduce energy consumption. The solar water heating systems on display at the 3rd international energy saving exhibition in Tehran are the first the draw the visitors who may not just be big fans green technology but simply more concerned about their gas and electricity bills. Now that energy subsidies have been eliminated and gas prices are high people are turning to other sources of energy. Solar water heaters can help reduce their energy consumption by 70 percent. Ever since the government has introduced its policies to change energy consumption pattern more and more people have been considering sources other than fossil fuels. The effect can be seen on this annual exhibition. More than 80 companies have taken part including more than 10 foreign companies from China, Germany, Turkey and France. Even wind turbines have found their way to the exhibition. Iran is the 16th producer of electricity in the world and is working to achieve sustainable development in the field of renewable energy. Iran is now producing 2100 Mega Watts of electricity from renewable sources. The target set for 2025 is 12000 Mega Watts which is 10 percent of the annual production. Meanwhile figures show that Iranians are becoming energy aware and changing their consumption habits. The total power peak demand in summer has decreased to 39140 megawatts ...

Cat Generator Sets: How Renewable Landfill Energy Works

Modern landfills are required to install gas collection systems to capture and destroy the methane gasses that are naturally produced within a landfill. These gases are burned in a flare. Rather than eliminating landfill gas by simply burning it off, Caterpillar can help you turn it into a renewable fuel by providing gas-fueled engine-generators that can produce electric power from landfill gas. A Call for Renewable Energy in Brazil

Amazon Watch journeyed back to the Brazilian Amazon with James Cameron and this time, he brought Arnold Schwarzenegger. The team returned to the Arara village on the threatened Big Bend of the Xingu River and was met by hundreds of villagers, the legendary Kayapo Chief Raoni, world-renowned climate scientists and local movement leaders. Their resounding message was the same: "We urge the Brazilian government stop the Belo Monte Dam and pursue truly renewable energy alternatives!"

Renewable energy? The cake is a lie.

Dispelling bullshit theories about mankind's impact, or lack there of. Burn wood, oil, and coal as much as possible because it is the purest form of organic energy we will ever have. Fuck solar cells, fuck windmills, these are made from non-renewable metals and plastics derived from petroleum you complete idiot. Besides you could build and entire locomotive, or about 100 cars with the resources in one windmill. Wow you're really saving the environment dumb-ass. Good job.

Renewable Energy

Please Subscribe Renewable energy is energy which comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable (naturally replenished). In 2008, about 19% of global final energy consumption came from renewables, with 13% coming from traditional biomass, which is mainly used for heating, and 3.2% from hydroelectricity.[1] New renewables (small hydro, modern biomass, wind, solar, geothermal, and biofuels) accounted for another 2.7% and are growing very rapidly.[1] The share of renewables in electricity generation is around 18%, with 15% of global electricity coming from hydroelectricity and 3% from new renewables

China turning to renewable energy to meet growing power needs (08 Jun 2011)

China turning to renewable energy to meet growing power needs By Channel NewsAsia's Shanghai Correspondent Kristine Lim | Posted: 08 June 2011 0753 hrs SHANGHAI: China is turning to renewable energy to meet its growing power needs. Researchers say the cost of solar power is falling and they are confident that solar energy can be widely used to generate electricity for households by 2015. At a solar energy research centre in Shanghai, nearly 6000 solar panels line the walls and rooftop. They generate one million kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, just enough to supply to over 300 families. Researchers are optimistic that this clean energy can be used more widely to ease China's power shortage by 2015. Dr Hao Guoqiang, Vice President of Shanghai Solar Energy Energy Research Centre, said: "The cost of solar energy is reducing over these past few years. The drop is about 10 percent to 20 percent each year. That means in 2015 the cost of supplying solar electricity is basically about the same as our electricity fees right now. That will be an era whereby solar energy is used on a large scale." It is hoped that renewable energy will be widely used in the next couple of years. Perhaps more families will have solar panels on their rooftops. But experts say to better utilise renewable energy and to better address the problem of power shortage, it involves reformulation of policies. For example, when families supply the excess electricity that they cannot finish, how are ...

100% renewable energy in Australia in only 10 years - no carbon tax

Melbourne University has released a 194 page blueprint for how to convert all Australia's existing power generation to 100% renewable in just 10 years. The report is scientifically based, well researched and takes into account all aspects of such a plan including technology, jobs, upgrades, placement, transistionary effects and it is completely costed. This country needs a plan that is bold. This country needs a plan that doesn't involve a massive increase in the cost of living that will do NOTHING to reduce emissions but will ensure coal miners and their union heavies are kept in employment within their polluting industry. I urge everyone to visit the link I have at the end of the video and below and download the plan. Set yourself a couple of hours to go through it. If you agree with it, email your local member and raise it with them. It is time this country did something bold, something that will create 10's of 1000's of jobs and make the Snowy River Scheme look like a Sunday picnic. This could be our opportunity to show the world what we are capable of and set ourselves up as the global leaders in renewable energy technology. Please go to the link. www.energy.unimelb.edu.au

Blowing in the Wind: Renewable Energy as the Answer to an Economy Adrift

Blowing in the Wind: Renewable Energy as the Answer to an Economy Adrift - Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming - 2008-03-06 - With Wall Street tumbling, oil prices rising, and the specter of a recession hanging over America's economy, new, invigorating economic strategies could put America's economic growth back on course. One of those strategies is increasing the use of renewable energy technologies, which holds the potential for economic growth and domestic job creation. The Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming examined how smart policies that promote the construction of renewable energy can create jobs and grow the economy. The range of jobs available in a green economy is wide and the potential employment impact is substantial. A recent analysis by the Cleantech Venture Network estimated that as many as 500000 green jobs could be created by 2010. However, with key tax credits for renewable technologies set to expire at the end of 2008, America faces the prospect of losing more than 100000 domestic job opportunities in 2009 alone. Can Renewable Energy Power The World? Hermann Scheer

Hermann Scheer gives the obvious answer to the question: Can renewable energy power the world? It certainly can. There are obviously businesses and individuals with vested interest in old fashioned dirty fuels that spread doubt and lies to try and protect a failing business. Now we understand the global destruction caused by pollution from dirty fossil fuels, we have no excuse to use them, other than greed. Welcome to 'The age of Renewables' Hermann Scheer passed away on 14 October 2010 in Berlin He was a righteous gentleman who achieved so much.
