It seems my viewers have an interest in 2 things in particular, brakes and check engine lights so here are some brakes for you. To tell the truth I don't do too many drum brake jobs these days so I'm a little rusty but the principals here are sound and should get you through a basic drum brake job. A couple of things to note here, I replaced the drums on this particular job but if you have enough "meat" left on the drums you can have them machined for a lot less than replacing them. As I said in the video I normally use a different method of removing the hub from the bearing assembly by using a slide hammer. I also normally use a press to reinstall the hub into the new bearing instead of hitting it with a hammer. Life is not perfect and we sometimes have to improvise as I did here. I know a few of you will ask about the size fasteners that I used to hammer the bearing out, I used hardened (8.8) 10x1.25 bolts to do the job. This was a request from a while ago and I'm happy to get to it now. I did a bunch of video on this car (1990 Honda Accord LX) and have lots more to show you in future episodes. Honda captive rotors are a pain to say the least. For the most part you can take them somewhere that is equipped with an on-the-car brake lathe to have them machined when they get warped but in this cast they were too thin and damaged for machining and needed to be replaced. I have to admit that this job does not always go this easy, it usually requires a lot more effort, some pain, and perhaps a little blood to accomplish but I guess it was trying to behave for the camera on this day. Astute views may notice that I switched sides for the video, that's because I ended up replacing the wheel bearing on the side that I started with and did the disassembly a bit differently as a result, good eye if you spotted that. After posting the last video on replacing struts I thought I would post this one next. I shot this along with the rest of the Accord front end work that I did last fall. A couple of things are different, the most obvious is that the springs are a much smaller diameter so you really need to be careful when you work with these since the spring compressor doesn't have as much to grab hold of. Second, when you install the struts back on the car care must be taken to get the notch on the strut lined up with the wishbone, if you don't do this the upper wishbone bolt will not go in since it has to fit in a groove on the back of the strut. For the second time I've shown you that I tighten the lower wishbone bolt with the car off of the ground, the fact is I shouldn't do this since I'm told it may ruin the bushing that goes through the lower control arm. I believe this to be possible but I have not experienced any problems doing it this way. For me it just seems like a pain in the butt to try and reach around the tire after I've put the wheel back on. But for those of you that like to point out my faults here is my excuse for not doing it the "right" way. Here is how I changed the head and gasket on my 1992 Mazda B2600i pickup truck. This was the first time I have ever done a head gasket repair, and I have to say that most everything went according to plan. It was actually a lot easier than I anticipated. Total work time was about 14 hours, plus 2 weeks waiting for parts to arrive, that was the hardest part, haha.
