An quick overview of the Victorian Herpetological Society (VHS) 2011 Reptile Expo at the Melbourne Showgrounds. A one day event bringing together hundreds of breeders, suppliers and other reptile enthusiasts; not to mention the animals themselves -- snakes, lizards, crocodiles, turtles, insects, spiders and a few mammals. Well worth a visit for the day, but get there early. I made the mistake of going late in the afternoon and missed out on several impressive animals and displays.... but there's always next year!

I wanted to make this video to hopefully help some people have a better outlook about reptiles and amphibians. I highly look up to Steve Irwin and his family for trying to help wildife conservation. They helped all animals such as birds, mammals, even fish. But their main concern is reptiles and they deserve thanking, but most of all help. Wildlife conservation can be done as simply as not polluting, riding your bike or helping with population counts in your area. Most of all, reptiles in general do not have respect. Even things such as purchasing a reptile that you cannot support or cannot deal with and then dumping it on someone else, or in the wild is an act of disrespect to these amazing creatures. Hopefully some can find this video an inspiration as well as a kick in the butt to start doing something about Earth!

I will be the first to admit that I am not that much into reptiles. I have limited footage of them from Kenya, since most of my time is spent around the big cats. On hikes I have seen a cobra and a black mamba. Lucky for me, both times they were moving away from where I was walking. Featured in this video is a monitor (Varanidae) which are some of the largest lizards. They will eat croc eggs and raid nests on the ground belonging to birds. They are found throughout Africa most often near river beds. The video also highlights the agama lizard (Agama agama.) There are over 30 known species of Agama lizards in Africa. They like to eat insects as well as will dine on berries, grass, and the eggs of smaller lizards. The Leopard Tortoise (Geochelone pardalis) is known as a shy tortoise. They can move very well on their stocky legs and are often seen climbing over rocky terrain. In 2000 the USDA banned the importation of several species of tortoise including the leopard tortoise in order to better protect it in the wild. All of the reptiles in this video have somewhat healthy wild populations but like all wildlife, they need protected land and a healthy eco system in order to keep on surviving. As stated in this video, please DO NOT support the taking of "pets" from the wild. If you have to own a reptile please make sure it is captive bred, and if it gets to be something you can't take proper care of please DO NOT release it into the wild. This is a how to video for a lizard hide, im planing on puting leopard geckos in this but you can make them for any lizard you want providing the hide is a good size for you animal. We use insulation foam and non toxic selant and paint. When you finish the last coat of paint a layer of sand can be droped on top to give it a more natural texture and colour. Pretty much i just tell you a little bit about what i do to help myself get reptiles and how i convince my parents. Hopefully this will work for you. I do in fact have to convince my parents for every reptile i get i can't just buy whatever i want and i do pay for it all.

I originally wanted to have some background music, but I couldn't find anything suitable. Oh well! My number one reason for going to the expo was to see the albino iguanas. I was also excited about seeing all the different types of blue tongue skinks. As you can see, I basically recorded every skink I saw. It was really fun!
