I'm Straight (Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers)

I called this number three times already today But I, I got scared, I put It back in place, I put my phone back in place. I still don't know if I should have called up. Look, just tell me why don't ya if I'm out of place. 'Cause here's your chance to make me feel awkward And wish that I had never even called up this place. I saw you though today walk by with hippie Johnny. I had to call up and say how I want to take his place. So this phone call today conerns hippie Johnny. He's always stoned, he's never straight. I saw you today, you know, walk by with hippie Johnny. Look, I had to call up and say, I want to take his place. See he's stoned, hippie Johnny. Now get this, I'm straight and I want to take his place. Now look, I like him too, I like hippie Johnny. But I'm straight and I want to take his place. I said, I'm straight I said, I'm straight I'm proud to say Well I'm straight and I want to take his place. Now I've watched you walk around here. I've watched you meet these boyfriends, I know, and you tell me how they're deep. Look but, if these guys, if they're really so great, tell me, why can't they at least take this place and take it straight? Why always stoned, like hippie Johnny is? I'm straight and I want to take his place. Oh I'm certainly not stoned, like hippie Johnny is. I'm straight and I want to take his place. I said, I'm straight I said, I'm straight I'm I'm straight and I want to take his place All right you Modern Lovers what do you say? (I'm straight ...

Baby You're a Rich Man - The Beatles

Magical Mystery Tour Track 10 Baby You're A Rich Man How does it feel to be One of the beautiful people? Now that you know who you are What do you want to be? And have you travelled very far? Far as the eye can see. How does it feel to be One of the beautiful people? How often have you been there? Often enough to know. What did you see, when you were there? Nothing that doesn't show. Baby you're a rich man, Baby you're a rich man, Baby you're a rich man too. You keep all your money in a big brown bag inside a zoo. What a thing to do. Baby you're a rich man, Baby you're a rich man, Baby you're a rich man too. How does it feel to be One of the beautiful people? Tuned to a natural E Happy to be that way. Now that you've found another key What are you going to play? Baby you're a rich man, Baby you're a rich man, Baby you're a rich man too. You keep all your money in a big brown bag inside a zoo. What a thing to do. Baby you're a rich man... I don't own this song

Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - Roadrunner (Once)

Recorded for Beserkley Records in late 1974, produced by label boss Matthew King Kaufman, and released at the time on a single (Beserkley B-34701) with a B-side by the band Earth Quake. Kaufman stated: "To record "Roadrunner" took the 3 minutes 35 seconds for the performance, about another 30 minutes to dump the background vocals on, and another 90 minutes to mix it". This version was reissued in 1975 on the album Beserkley Chartbusters Vol. 1 (Beserkley JBZ-0044). In the UK, where Richman had received substantial and very positive publicity in the music press, it was released in 1976 as a single (Beserkley BZZ 1), known as Roadrunner (Once), with the Cale-produced Roadrunner (Twice) on the B-side. This single reached number 11 in the UK singles chart in early 1977. - Wikipedia Lyrics: One two three four five six Roadrunner, roadrunner Going faster miles an hour Gonna drive past the Stop 'n' Shop With the radio on I'm in love with the modern world Massachusetts when it's late at night And the neon when it's cold outside I got the radio on Just like the roadrunner Goin around the highway I walked by the Stop n shop Then I drove by the stop n shop I like that much better than walking by the Stop n shop Cause I had the radio on I felt in touch with the modern world I felt in love with the modern world I felt in love with ??? Roadrunner United - The Rich Man (Lyrics)

Roadrunner United was a project organized by the heavy metal record label Roadrunner Records to celebrate its 25th anniversary. It culminated in an album released worldwide on October 11, 2005, entitled The All-Star Sessions. Four "team captains" were chosen to lead 57 artists from 45 past and present Roadrunner bands, and produce and oversee the album's 18 tracks: Joey Jordison of Slipknot and Murderdolls; Matt Heafy of Trivium; Dino Cazares of Fear Factory, Asesino and Divine Heresy and formerly of Brujeria; and Robert Flynn of Machine Head and formerly of Vio-lence and Forbidden. The unprecedented project was the brainchild of Roadrunner UK General Manager Mark Palmer and Roadrunner USA VP of A&R Monte Conner. The album project was coordinated by Lora Richardson and was mixed by Colin Richardson and Andy Sneap. The All-Star Sessions spawned one single ("The End"). The DVD included with the CD purchase is a documentary of the "Making Of" the songs. It features the sessions of the four team captains making their songs. The Beatles Baby You're A Rich Man (2009 Stereo Remaster)

"Baby, You're a Rich Man" is a song written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and recorded by The Beatles on 11 May 1967 at Olympic Sound Studios. This was the first song by the band recorded and mixed completely outside Abbey Road Studios. The song was recorded during sessions for the Magical Mystery Tour EP, but was intended for the Yellow Submarine soundtrack. That plan changed when it was used as the B-side of the "All You Need Is Love" single. Two song fragments were combined to create "Baby, You're a Rich Man". The verses from "One of the Beautiful People" by John Lennon were combined with Paul McCartney's previously unaccompanied "Baby, you're a rich man..." chorus. Two songs were combined in a similar fashion to make "A Day in the Life". The song featured an unusual oboe-like sound, which was created with a clavioline, an early forerunner of the synthesiser.

Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - Astral Plane

Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers Roadrunner, Roadrunner The Beserkley Collection Richmans influences are obvious from the outset: shambolic Velvets-style rocknroll fused with tinges of doo-wop and sweet melodies reminiscent of the Beach Boys. These influences pale in significance however, when compared to the massive list of performers who took their cues from him. Anyone who ever dared to challenge the balls-out machismo of the atypical rock idol has Jonathan to look up to.

Velvet Underground Jonathan Richman

How in the world were they making that sound? * They were wild like the USA A mystery band in a New York way Rock and roll, but not like the rest And to me, America at it's best How in the world were they making that sound? Velvet Underground. A spooky tone on a Fender bass Played less notes and left more space Stayed kind of still, looked kinda shy Kinda far away, kinda dignified. How in the world were they making that sound? Velvet Underground. Now you can look at that band and wonder where All that sound was coming from With just 4 people there. Twangy sounds of the cheapest types, Sounds as stark as black and white stripes, Bold and brash, sharp and rude, Like the heats turned off And you're low on food. How in the world were they making that sound? Velvet Underground. Like this... Wild wild parties when they start to unwind A close encounter of the thirdest kind On the bandstand playing, everybody's saying How in the world were they making that sound? Velvet Underground. Well you could look at that band And at first sight Say that certain rules about modern music Wouldn't apply tonight. Twangy sounds of the cheapest kind, Like "Guitar sale $29.99," Bold and brash, stark and still, Like the heats turned off And you can't pay the bill. How in the world were they making that sound? Velvet Underground. Both guitars got the fuzz tone on The drummer's standing upright pounding along A howl, a tone, a feedback whine Biker boys meet the college kind How in the world were ...
Are We Really Less Free Today? Sheldon Richman on the State of Liberty

Are we really less free than we used to be? Sheldon Richman, editor of The Freeman, says yes—and no. Reason.tv sat down with Richman during the recent Libertopia festival in Hollywood, California to discuss the mixed bag that is the state of liberty today. The nanny state and regulatory state may be growing, but Richman points out that many people, from blacks to women, are freer than they used to be. Richman also highlights the liberating power of technology, which breaks down barriers to creative expression and information. Approximately 6.3 minutes. Shot by Hawk Jensen and Zach Weissmueller; edited by Alex Manning.
