SIOUX FALLS: FALLS PARK

Falls Park in Sioux Falls South Dakota is a popular attraction for Art Displays and concerts as well as a place of beauty and relaxation. This natural beauty on the Big Sioux River gave the city of Sioux Falls its name and, like a lot of places in South Dakota, it has a long history. Visitors enjoy the scenic beauty, as well as the remnants of some of Sioux Falls earliest buildings. In pioneer days the falls were tapped for water power to run the Queen Bee Mill, built in 1887. The foundation of the mill is still visible, as well as a hydroelectric plant built in 1908. These structures offer a glimpse into the areas history, while the Falls Park Visitor Information Center, featuring a five-story observation tower and elevator, provides information on Falls Park and other Sioux Falls attractions.

Crazy Horse Mtn Stone Tools & Artifacts

Stone tools, arrowheads and artifacts that have been donated to the museums at Crazy Horse Welcome Center. It's been 36 years since the construction of the first wing of the Indian Museum of North America. When Korczak accepted the invitation of Native Americans to carve a mountain memorial to their culture, he determined that it would be a humanitarian project. He wanted Crazy Horse to be much more than "just" a colossal mountain carving. He directed that the Memorial also would tell present and future generations the story of Native Americans by displaying outstanding examples of Indian culture and heritage - both of yesterday and today. The museum has grown with the project. Each year, tribal members and others contribute Native American art and artifacts to enhance the collection and make it more comprehensive and representative of all North American tribes.

SD Black Hills- Sylvan Lake

A stroll around beautiful Sylvan Lake near MT Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The unique rock formations surrounding the lake were formed in the same manner as the Needles: igneous and metamorphic rocks were uplifted, and weather has since shaped the rocks into their current form. The Needles spires are sharper and more pointed than the rocks around Sylvan Lake because the Needles were formed as closely spaced joints. The rounded forms of granite around the lake, on the other hand, were produced by widely spaced joints. Sylvan Lake is considered the Crown Jewel of Custer State Park in the Black Hills of western South Dakota . The mountain lake sits at the base of Harney Peak , the highest point east of the Rocky Mountains. Hikers can access the trail head for the three-mile trip to the summit. Other lake activities include swimming, paddleboating, fishing and picnicking.
