The sequence of events here is interesting. Two robbers enter a liquor store. One robber pulls out a gun and shoots at the store clerk, the clerk has a gun of his own and he shoots back. The robber who didn't have a gun gets hit and dies shortly after. The person who gets charged with the robber's death is actually the other robber who fired at the clerk. Watch the video and see why. I've come across these types of cases in the past and it always intrigues me how the law sometimes establishes legal accountability particularly in other, more complex, cases. Saw this happen earlier today (9/26/07) in downtown LA. Masked thieves running out to a getaway car, only to be surrounded by cops who run right by them into the bank, allowing thieves to escape! When it was all over a director yelled "reset!" and the scene unfolded again. Damn commercial shoots. Of course, its all fake, but for some reason people don't want to read the description and assume this could actually happen. The commercial was for the Chevy Malibu. Except for the block this took place on, the shoot was open to the public.

***Raw Robbery Footage at 02.04*** A Vancouver man in a wheelchair was touted as a hero Saturday night after he stopped a would-be robber. Cindy Grewal, owner of Food Stop on Commercial Drive, was at the counter when a man came in to the store. Grewal said he gave her a suspicious-looking $50 bill, so she told him she was keeping it and calling the police. "He [then] comes into the counter area and threatens to rob me," Grewal told The Province. Larry Skopnik was in the store and heard the commotion. Grewal said he rolled over to the counter, grabbed the man by the neck and wrestled him to the ground, falling to the floor himself. Other customers rushed over to help as Grewal called 911. "Right at the moment that he was about to go in and get physical with her, I found that that was unacceptable," Skopnik told CTV News. "All I really wanted to do was just end the situation. "Just because I'm in a chair doesn't mean I can't stand up and do what's right." Grewal called Skopnik, one of her regular customers, a hero. "He didn't think for a moment that he can't even walk," she said. "He nabbed that guy."

Pharmacist Fired After Shooting At Robbers
Last May, a pharmacist at a Michigan Walgreens was dismissed from his job at the drugstore chain after he fired his own handgun at an armed robber. Now the man is suing Walgreens and his lawyers have released footage of the incident to defend their client. Around 4:30 am on the night of the incident, armed robbers entered the Benton Harbor, MI, store and began demanding cash. According to the pharmacist, one robber jumped over the pharmacy counter and attempted to fire a gun at him but it didn't work. That's when the Walgreens staffer decided he needed to use his own weapon, stowed in his pocket holster. "At that moment, [the pharmacist] reasonably and justifiably believed that the was going to be shot and either killed or seriously injured by the armed robber," says his lawyers. "[He] then fired his handgun several times in self-defense and in defense of his co-workers." The pharmacist says he had alerted his superiors at Walgreens about possible security concerns at the store, which had been robbed four years ealier. Walgreens dismissed the man for violating its "no escalation" policy and disagrees with the plaintiff's contention that he had a "right to carry or discharge a concealed weapon on its premises at any time." "Walgreens had a plausible and legitimate business reason to justify its decision to discharge [the pharmacist]," attorneys for Walgreens have stated. Here is the video footage of the incident.
