Rolls-Royce 102EX Phantom Experimental Electric revealed
On 1 and 2 March, the Rolls-Royce stand will also debut 102EX, a one-off, fully electric powered Phantom that will serve as a test bed to gather a bank of owner research in 2011. This will be crucial in informing future decisions on alternative drive-trains for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. 102EX will undertake a global test programme that takes in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America. Through test drives, owners will be given the opportunity to experience an alternative drive-train technology and to feed back their experiences, thoughts and concerns directly to Rolls-Royce. There are no plans to develop a production variant, but Geneva will start a dialogue with existing owners and stakeholders, posing as well as answering questions of its audience. Comments will be collated through the web portal www.electricluxury.com that will also chart the car's progress on tour throughout the year.

Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost
The Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, is the car that made its reputation as the most reliable luxury car builder in the world. This shimmering car was impossible to ignore. It quickly became known as The Silver Ghost, a name that was bestowed on it because its shimmering appearance and the fact that it moved as quietly as a ghost. In 1907 the Silver Ghost name was born when Rolls-Royce managing director, Claude Johnson, who was known for his promotional skills, silver plated all the fittings of a 40/50 horsepower Rolls-Royce, and while he was at it, painted the body silver. The Silver Ghost name caught on and was eventually used for all the 40/50hp cars built between 1907 and 1925. The original car earned its place in automotive history by helping to forge the reputation of Rolls-Royce as the builder of the most reliable cars in the world. In May 1907 Johnson, under the watchful eye of the Royal Automobile Club (RAC), drove the car to Scotland and back using just one gear. A feat made possible by the high torque engine. The Silver Ghost covered the 2000 mile route with no problems and later, Johnson and a team of drivers motored effortlessly up and down Britain for almost 15000 miles virtually non-stop, without any breakdowns. This was more than twice the existing record of 7089 miles. The car was awarded a gold medal by the RAC and it secured its place in history.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has announced the start of recruitment for the company's new intake of apprentices. The successful applicants will join the apprenticeship programme at the end of August 2011 working alongside skilled craftspeople in the paint, wood, leather, motor vehicle, engineering and business areas. The company's apprenticeship programme was successfully launched in 2006 and provides people aged 16-24 with the opportunity to train with the Goodwood-based manufacturer of the world's best selling super-luxury cars. The apprenticeships last for up to four years and combine on-the-job training with studying for nationally recognised qualifications. The opportunity to join the company following a successful apprenticeship is a possibility but only the best apprentices are selected.

Rolls-Royce Ghost Long Wheelbase announced
China is the market for extended-wheelbase variants and Rolls-Royce has introduced the new Ghost Extended Wheelbase edition at Auto Shanghai today. The wheelbase of this stretched Ghost is 170 mm (6.7 inches) longer than on the standard model and good for twice as much knee room, says Rolls-Royce. The Ghost Extended Wheelbase will be built to order and is available only in limited numbers for this year until Rolls-Royce can ramp up production in 2012. The Rolls-Royce Ghost is powered by a 6.6 liter twin-turbo V12 with an output of 563 PS (414 kW / 555 bhp) and 780 Nm (575 lb-ft). The extended-wheelbase Ghost does the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 5 seconds flat. "This is the first time we have undertaken a world launch of a Rolls-Royce car in China, underscoring the strategic significance of this market and the Asia Pacific region," says Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös. At the Auto Shanghai event, Rolls-Royce has also introduced several bespoke editions exclusive to the Chinese market. The Phantom Extended Wheelbase Saloon comes in a Rhapsody Black exterior with an interior finish in Ardent Red and Seashell with a Piano Black veneer. There's also a Phantom Drophead Coupé in a Maiden Blue exterior with a Navy Blue and Seashell interior complimented by Straight Grained Oak and Ebony. When the double "R" badge turns a corner, everyone notices it. You cannot blend a Rolls Royce with the other cars traveling down the street. It only takes one glimpse and you know you're looking at something different. Rolls Royce has been the definition of luxury since they first opened there doors. This Silver Shadow shows the quality that goes into making these cars. Although this car was produced in 1976 it still looks remarkable. The two tone color scheme of minty green and black sets things off in traditional Rolls Royce style. All the chrome is in outstanding condition along with thick crystal clear glass. The over sized wheels are color matched, the hood ornament is gleaming, and the grill flashes light off the front like a chandler. In other words, a Rolls Royce is coming your way. Inside you wouldn't expect anything less than A1 quality, and that's exactly what you get. The seats are the same minty green as the paint, leather of course. From the passenger side to the driver's side everything is beveled into warm wood grain, along with the steering wheel. The condition of the leather is outstanding. The same can be said for the head lining, the door panels and floors. Proper care was issued when taking care of this car. Sitting inside the Shadow you cannot help but feel safe.
