Roosevelt

"It's hard to remember now, but before Social Security, nearly half of America's seniors lived in poverty. After a lifetime of playing by the rules and working hard, there was no guarantee of a secure retirement. "My grandfather, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and a majority of Americans thought that was wrong. "They believed that lifting our seniors out of poverty is a reflection of our nation's core values. "That's why my grandfather signed the Social Security act seventy three years ago today. One of the great successes of the 20th Century, today Social Security lifts nearly 13 million seniors and 1.3 million children out of poverty. "Back in 1935, a small minority did not share those values. They opposed the creation of Social Security because they believed that government should not have a role in ensuring a retirement with dignity or helping seniors stay out of poverty. They said, "You're on your own". "John McCain agrees with that old way of thinking. Like President Bush, he wants to privatize our Social Security, turning it into a gamble with our futures, and making 8.6 million American seniors vulnerable to poverty. John McCain has even said Social Security is "a disgrace". "I couldn't disagree more. "Our Social Security isn't a disgrace; it's a compact, a trust between generations of Americans. It's a reflection of our values. "On the 70th anniversary of Social Security, Americans stood together and said no to George Bush's attempt to privatize Social Security. "On ...

Tongans get maced while performing Haka at high school football game

At the Union High School football game in Roosevelt Utah. These polynesian boys had traveled to Roosevelt to support family members that were playing on the team. after a game well played but our team still lost. these family members got together and decided to perform the haka for the team to boost their morale and show them we support them. So the boys waited for everyone to get off the field and all that were left on the field was our team and the opposing team that was on the other side of the field in their team huddle. so as our team was walking up the fans started performing the haka..... everyone was enjoying it and watching. as soon as the police officer said to make a hole parents, players and coaches were telling the police officers that it was okay to let them finish. but as the video shows the police didn't care and still pulled out mace and batons and used it on the boys. children, elderly, and others were sprayed. this was a huge overreaction by the police and physical force was not needed since these boys/men were not threatening ANYONE!!
Franklin D. Roosevelt: State of the Union Address (1942)

thefilmarchive.org Franklin Delano Roosevelt (January 30, 1882 -- April 12, 1945) also known by his initials, FDR, was the 32nd President of the United States (1933--1945) and a central figure in world events during the mid-20th century, leading the United States during a time of worldwide economic crisis and world war. The only American president elected to more than two terms, he facilitated a durable coalition that realigned American politics for decades. FDR defeated incumbent Republican Herbert Hoover in November 1932, at the depths of the Great Depression. FDR's persistent optimism and activism contributed to a renewal of the national spirit. He worked closely with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin in leading the Allies against Germany and Japan in World War II, but died just as victory was in sight. In his "first hundred days" in office, which began March 4, 1933, and beyond Roosevelt spearheaded major legislation and issued a profusion of executive orders that instituted the New Deal—a variety of programs designed to produce relief (government jobs for the unemployed), recovery (economic growth), and reform (through regulation of Wall Street, banks and transportation). The economy improved rapidly from 1933 to 1937, but then relapsed into a deep recession. The bipartisan Conservative Coalition that formed in 1937 prevented his packing the Supreme Court or passing any considerable legislation; it abolished many of the relief programs when unemployment diminished ...

US Roosevelt warmongering forced the West into WW2 - 1/4

The Mark Weber Report: President Roosevelt's Record of Lies and Lawlessness in the `Good War' "Citing little-known reports and remarks of Polish, British and French officials, and other evidence, Weber traces President Franklin Roosevelt's secret campaign to provoke war in Europe prior to the outbreak of hostilities in September 1939. By pressing Britain, France and Poland into war against Germany, the US President bears at least some responsibility for World War II. Weber also discusses the role of Jewish power and influence on US foreign policy during those years. Roosevelt's record of deceit, lies and lawlessness is routinely suppressed by those who control the US media and American cultural life. Americans who express admiration for Roosevelt and his leadership have little moral right to complain when other presidents follow his example and lead the country into war by breaking the law, subverting the Constitution, and lying to the people." reasonradionetwork.com Source material: Mark Weber (1982/1983), "President Roosevelt's Campaign To Incite War in Europe: The Secret Polish Documents" www.ihr.org Also: David Irving (1987), "Churchill's War, vol. FDR a date which will live in infamy speech

The Infamy Speech was delivered at 12:30 pm on December 8, 1941, by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt, one day after the Empire of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hawaii. The name derives from the first line of the speech: Roosevelt describing the previous day as "a date which will live in infamy". Within an hour of the speech, Congress passed a formal declaration of war against Japan and officially brought the US into World War II. The address is regarded as one of the most famous American political speeches of the 20th century.[1]

Lo and behold, here's a classic lip-synced Muppet bit from 1969, featuring the voices of Matt Robinson and Loretta Long (the original Gordon and Susan). Note how incredibly butch Roosevelt sounds here - this must have been his very first appearance. Whew! Even I'm amazed I was able to post this.

On October 31, 1936, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave a campaign speech before a crowd at Madison Square Garden. The words he spoke could be uttered in our present time. I have edited this just over 30-minute speech down to less than 10 minutes to provide highlights. We need this kind of leadership today.

Teddy Roosevelt Oath of Office 1905

On Mar. 4, 1905, TR is inaugurated in Washington, DC with much celebration and fanfare. TR rides in an open landau on Fifteenth St., NW, escorted by mounted Rough Riders; Secret Service men and detectives walk on either side of the carriage; TR tips his hat to the crowd. Sitting beside him is Sen. John C. Spooner of Wis., Chairman of the joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. Opposite, but not clearly visible, are Sen. Henry Cabot Lodge of Mass. and Rep. John Dalzell of Penn., members of the committee. Second sequence consists of long shots of TR taking the oath of office on a platform erected on the east front of the Capitol; Chief Justice Melville Weston Fuller (1888-1910) administers the Presidential oath of office as Chief Clerk of the Supreme Court James H. McKenney holds the Bible. The platform is decorated with plants and garlands and a large banner with the American eagle on it hangs from the center of the railing. West Point cadets and Annapolis midshipmen are assembled below the platform.

FDR: I Welcome Their Hatred

From an FDR 1936 campaign speech in Madison Square Garden: "For nearly four years you have had an Administration which instead of twirling its thumbs has rolled up its sleeves. We will keep our sleeves rolled up. We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace—business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering. They had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob. Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me—and I welcome their hatred. I should like to have it said of my first Administration that in it the forces of selfishness and of lust for power met their match. I should like to have it said of my second Administration that in it these forces met their master."
