Deep Root Music 1 - Revival ( 1 of 5 )

Unfortunately this documentary was deleted along with my old account because some people obviously didn't enjoy the presence, in an educative purpose, of the 11 part Jazz documentary on utube. Some people around the world don't have the money to buy the dvd's but i'm sure that they would if they will ever have 'em. Of course big corporations don't care about this and definitely don't believe it because they live in a world of their own behind a desk or in a maybach or a yacht....fiyah pon dem aristocrats! Documentary 'bout the development of reggae music. Footage with pioneers interviews, parties, studio sessions n more. Enjoy brethren, have nice day! Jah Bless!

Pete Seeger: American Folk Music Documentary - To Hear Your Banjo Play (1/2)

1946 www.amazon.com Watch the full film: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com American folk music encompasses many genres; many are known as roots music. Roots music is a broad category of music including bluegrass, country music, gospel, old time music, jug bands, Appalachian folk, blues, Cajun and Native American music. The music is considered American either because it is native to the United States or because it developed there, out of foreign origins, to such a degree that it struck musicologists as something distinctly new. It is considered "roots music" because it served as the basis of music later developed in the United States, including rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and jazz. Many roots musicians do not consider themselves to be folk musicians; the main difference between the American folk music revival and American "roots music" is that roots music seems to cover a slightly broader range, including blues and country. Roots musical forms reached their most expressive and varied forms in the first two to three decades of the 20th century. The Great Depression and the Dust Bowl were extremely important in disseminating these musical styles to the rest of the country, as Delta blues masters, itinerant honky tonk singers and Latino and Cajun musicians spread to cities like Chicago, Los Angeles and New York. The growth of the recording industry in the same approximate period was also important; increased possible profits from music placed pressure on artists, songwriters ...

PBS American Roots Episode 4: Chapter 5: Nakai & Mirabal

Episode Four: All My Children of the Sun focuses on the reassessment of diverse ethnic musics previously excluded from American "folk" music, and their inclusion in a redefined "American roots music." This episode describes the flourishing of Cajun culture in southwest Louisiana, the popularization of tejano music in south Texas, and the evolution of Native American music forms. Episode Four also rounds out the series by exploring the state of American roots music today - where the blues, country and gospel genres are now and where they are headed in the 21st century. Commentary in this episode is provided by Marc and Ann Savoy, Steve Riley, Flaco Jimenez, Edwin Hawkins, Robbie Robertson, Floyd Westerman, and Robert Mirabal among many others.

RAM - Defile (Best Kanaval 2008 song & video)

Definitely my favorite kanaval song this year. Appreciate the shout-out to one of the bravest men in the history of this world. Background: RAM (stands for the initial of its founder) is one of the most prominent vodou-themed bands in Rasin (roots) music. Created in 1990 by Richard A. Morse, an American-born man (Mother is Emerante de Pradines, Haitian folklore dancer and singer) who moved to Port-au-Prince, seeking to explore Haitian and Caribbean music, RAM is known for its interesting fusion of traditional music and rock n' roll. As beloved as they are and known for being the people's voice, the group has survived kidnapping threats, assissination attempts due to their political lyrics and speaking out against the government, making their mark known especially under the oppressive regime of Raoul Cedras (1991-1994). Richard, and his wife Lunise are the group's lead singers.
