John McDermott - The Rose Of Tralee

«Images» Watercolours found on the web «Lyrics» The pale moon was rising above the green mountains The sun was declining beneath the blue sea When I strayed with my love to the pure crystal fountain That stands in the beautiful Vale of Tralee She was lovely and fair as the rose of the summer Yet 'twas not her beauty alone that won me Oh no 'twas the truth in her eyes ever dawning That made me love Mary the Rose of Tralee. The cool shades of evening their mantle were spreading And Mary all smiling was listening to me The moon through the valley her pale rays was shedding When I won the heart of the Rose of Tralee She was lovely and fair as the rose of the summer Yet 'twas not her beauty alone that won me Oh no 'twas the truth in her eyes ever dawning That made me love Mary the Rose of Tralee In the far fields of India 'mid war's bloody thunders Her voice was solace and comfort to me But the cool hand of death has now torn us asunder I'm lonely tonight for my Rose of Tralee She was lovely and fair as the rose of the summer Yet 'twas not her beauty alone that won me Oh no 'twas the truth in her eyes ever dawning That made me love Mary the Rose of Tralee She was lovely and fair as the rose of the summer Yet 'twas not her beauty alone that won me Oh no 'twas the truth in her eyes ever dawning That made me love Mary the Rose of Tralee

Rose of Tralee

A lovely Irish song as performed by Nightnoise (album "Shadow of Time") The pale moon was rising Above the green mountain; The sun was declining Beneath the blue sea When I strayed with my love To the pure crystal fountain That stands in the beautiful Vale of Tralee. She was lovely and fair As the rose of the summer Yet 'twas not her beauty Alone the won me Oh, no! 'twas the Truth In her eye ever dawning That made me love Mary, The rose of Tralee The cool shades of evening Their mantle was spreading, And Mary, all smiling, Was listening to me, The moon through the valley, Her pale rays was shedding When I won the heart Of the rose of Tralee Though lovely and fair As the rose of the summer Yet 'twas not her beauty Alone the won me Oh, no! 'twas the Truth In her eye ever dawning That made me love Mary, The rose of Tralee

The Rose of Tralee----- An old Irish love song

I remember, when I was a small boy, my uncle singing this song unaccompanied, and since then I have thought it the most beautiful of love songs. I always think of that day whenever I hear this song. We don't always realise the significance of what we do and say to others, and my uncle would be amazed, if he were still alive, that I still hear his song some sixty years later.

Rose of Tralee - Roger Whittaker

Roger Whittaker (born 22 March 1936) is an Anglo-Kenyan singer-songwriter and musician. His music can be described as easy listening. He is best known for his baritone singing voice and trademark whistling ability. American audiences are most familiar with his 1970 hit "New World in the Morning" and his 1975 hit "The Last Farewell," the latter of which is his only single to hit the Billboard Hot 100 (it made the Top 20) and also hit #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. LYRICS: The pale moon was rising above the green mountain The sun was declining beneath the blue sea When I strayed with my love to the pure crystal fountain That stands in beautiful vale of Tralee. She was lovely and fair as the rose of the summer Yet, 'twas not her beauty alone that won me Oh no! 'Twas the the truth in her eye ever beaming That made me love Mary, the Rose of Tralee. The cool shades of evening their mantle were spreading And Mary all smiling was listening to me The moon through the valley her pale rays was shedding When I won the heart of the Rose of Tralee. Though lovely and fair as the rose of the summer Yet, 'twas not her beauty alone that won me Oh no! 'Twas the the truth in her eye ever beaming That made me love Mary, the Rose of Tralee.
