Patricia Kaas était venue chanter pour l'anniversaire de Remus Truica contre un cachet de 80 000 €. Le milliardaire Remus Truica défraie la chronique roumaine à la suite de ses démêlés conjugaux. Sa femme, Ioana, arguant de ses infidélités, a quitté le domicile du lac de Snagov, dans la banlieue bucarestoise, avec ses deux filles, pour s'installer sur l'ile de Saint Martin, dans les Caraïbes, occupant une luxueuse villa appartenant au couple. Son mari lui a intenté un procès pour récupérer ses enfants dont elle a pourtant obtenu la garde à la suite d'une décision d'un tribunal français lui octroyant également une pension mensuelle de 3000 €. Parmi les reproches de la belle Ioana à son mari figure sa liaison avec Patricia Kaas, que la chanteuse raconte elle-même dans son livre biographique. Remus Truica était un de ses admirateurs passionnés et l'avait conviée à venir chanter au cours d'une fête privée, lors de son anniversaire. Il avait mis à sa disposition son propre avion et versé un cachet de 80 000 euros. "Au cours de mon séjour, il m'envoyait des bouquets de fleurs extravagants, trois fois par jour" confie la jeune femme, "il était le premier à me saluer le matin, me tenait compagnie toute la journée, m'envoyait des messages". L'inévitable se produisit alors: la chanteuse termina dans le lit de l'oligarque. "Je trouvais délicieuse cette image de notre relation : moi, une artiste célèbre, lui, un milliardaire". I discovered Langston Hughes(which lead me to Jacques Romain) when I was a sophomore in high school; and, perhaps, if I had not started reading Hughes, I would have never discovered Roumain when I did. My first encounter with Jacques Roumain was through Langston Hughes "Masters of the Dew" the translation to Jacques Roumain's "gouverneurs de la rosee". Since then I try to learn everything that I could about Jacques Roumain for he had became a great hero of mine. This documentary is,indeed, a confirmation of everything I've always thought about Roumain. He was one of Haiti's greatest and most important authors, a political activist, a man of the people who "walk it like he talk it" and he also died to young. Kudos to award winning film maker Arnold Antonin for such an excellent documentary. This is a never before seen look at 19th and 20th century Haitian society. Bon bagay (good stuff).
