Now don't tell me this is not simple, I know it is. It turns on both a music box and a Nintendo DS. I did not do the whole showing what the machine looks like before, so tell me which way is better. Sorry for the terrible lighting, it's the best I've got at night. This machine was supposed to be much longer but we are moving in a week so I had to clean up so we can get to packing. Steps: 1) I put a marble into a wooden marble game and it hits a train track standing upright. 2)The train track knocks a marble into a wooden thing that ejects the marble from the side. That marble hits another train track and knocks another marble in. 3) The marble rolls down a Scrabble board and barely manages to knock down some dominoes. 4) The dominoes hit a train track bridge and a marble starts rolling down. Eventually the balance is put completely off and the marble falls into another wooden marble game. 5) The marble hits more dominoes and the dominoes in turn hit another marble. 6) The marble rolls down and bounces onto a toy car. 7) The toy car rolls down and knocks down some upright train track pieces which hit another toy car. 8) The car slides down a wooden slide and flies off to hit a racing type toy for toddlers. 9) The shock makes another car go down the toy and hit more upright train track pieces. 10) One block has a string on it tied to a music box and as it falls it pulls out the drawer to make the music play. Not my best machine but it involves some new ideas. Camera work also leaves more to be desired but you can see the steps. This machine was supposed to go bowling but it only knocked down one pin! I think it's kind of funny so I won't redo it. This was my most reliable machine, it only took three tries to work! Here are the steps: 1)I put a marble in a wooden marble game and it slides down and moves a screw. 2)The screw is pulled by a magnet and hits a wooden marble block with a marble on it. The marble falls in and knocks down a domino on the way out. 3)The dominoes fall down and then hit a toy train (which has been in all my machines so far) and moves a wooden block. 4)The block goes over a track made for a marble and moves to knock down some dominoes. Those hit another one of those marble blocks and a marble falls in. 5)The marble travels down a track and hit some dominoes which make a 90 degree left turn and make another marble go down the track. 6)That marble hits a domino with another marble which ricochets off. This is repeated to gain momentum. 7)The marble nicks the bottom of a sideways domino which falls down and sets off a chain. One domino hits a stick with a holes with a screw in the middle and rotates it to hit some more dominoes. 8)The dominoes knock down a wooden block which falls upon a train which rolls down a track. 9)The train hits another stick which rotates to hit another. The second stick then moves an upwards facing stick back releasing a screw to <b>...</b>

This video shows Josh's version of a Rube Goldberg machine that strings together thirty moving parts using many household items and toys including legos, k'nex and marbles! His apparatus includes mechanical exchanges, electrical elements and even a chemical reaction. This room was constructed with the humor of Rube Goldberg cartoons in mind at the St. Louis City Museum. Developed organically, the room started with one exercycle on the bench and the thought, "What can this become?" From there, visual and comedic mechanics were added day by day to create a space that with the push of a button, the room would erupt with motion and activity. A line shaft and belt system from the Industrial Revolution was used to transmit power and action over the viewers head, encompassing them with movement and the challenge of deciphering what powers what. An umbrella opens and closes with the aid of cables and manikin hands, a cup floats and falls with the power of pneumatic pistons, a 3ft. wheel of feet kicks up opposing balancing beams, a leg and foot continue to 'kick the bucket' and a fireplace bellows that spins the pinwheel. The line shaft continues on the opposing side to spin a turn of the century shoe polisher and a wall of interconnected bicycle wheels. Shovels hang from the ceiling while being punched by boxing gloves and old dry cleaner racks play the xylophones. In an age of digital automation this purely mechanical machine was created by trial and error, with the driving thought "Maybe this will work." -Daniel Heggarty

The contest theme is around the world and I thought there would be a lot of US entries, so I decided to do Michigan. Since this is an international contest, some of you might not be familiar with Michigan, so here is some helpful information: Michigan is a state in the northern part of the US. It also borders Canada. Detroit is the largest city in Michigan and is known as the motor city capitol of the world; as it is famous for its auto industry. The big three companies' logos are pictured in this machine (Ford, GM, Chrysler). Other companies originally from Michigan include Vernors (pop/ soda) and Little Caesars Pizza (I used to work there; that's why I have a shirt). The Red Wings are Detroit's NHL team and have won 4 Stanley Cups since 1997 (I'm a huge hockey fan). Steve Yzerman was perhaps the Red Wings most famous player (Retired in 2006).
